1. Platformer - Rocket Knight Adventures
2. Shoot 'em up - Fantasy Zone
3. Adventure - Wonder Boy 3: Dragon's Trap
4. Driving game - Crash Team Racing
5. RPG - (Old) Final Fantasy V, (New) 7th Dragon 3
6. FPS - House od the Dead
7 Sports - Turf Masters (NGPC)
8. Fighting - Streets of Rage 2

Tried to pick some that wouldn't otherwise be picked. I added (New) as it is so hard to pick an old RPG fairly. (Hope that is okay). I couldn't leave out SoR2 though.

quintessential
adjective: representing the most perfect or typical example of a quality or class.

It would be interesting to see the difference between peoples 'Quintessential' list compared to their favourites file.
I know mine wouldn't be the same, as a lot of the quintessential (MIO) games from a genre are by no means my favourite games.

It's hard separating my own favourites from what is objectively the best of a genre. Then again, i'm not going to suggest games i don't like even if they are considered the best by most!

1. Platformer - Super Mario World
2. Shoot 'em up - Chicken Invaders 4
3. Adventure - The Curse of Monkey Island
4. Racing - GTR 2
5. RPG - Baldur's Gate 2
6. FPS - Unreal Tournament '99
7. Sports - Athens 2004
8. Survival Horror - Resident Evil 3
9. Fighting - Street Fighter 2
10. Strategy - Total Annihilation
11. Puzzle - Bejeweled 3
12. Silly - We Love Katamari
13. Genre Compilation - Grand Theft Auto 5
No, i'm not angry. That's just how i write.
