Your Game Of The Year?

Post by ncf1 » Thu Dec 07, 2017 12:24 am

There have been some I have yet to try like Mario Odyssey and a few more tasty looking titles, but for mine, from what I have played, the game/s of the year were :

Resident Evil VII and
Thimbleweed Park.

Both exceeded expectations, one being the most immersive survival horror I have ever played, the other being a terrific modern 2d point and click which hopefully brings forth more of the same.

Tell me what you reckon the best games of 2017 were, I'm ready to try out 1 or 2 more before the year is out.

Resident Evil VR. - not faultless- but as close to being there in terms of suspense and horror.

Inside - from the makers of limbo

I wanted to add Cuphead but it has frustrated and annoyed me into hating it, beautiful to look at but so spiteful to play.

Christ that is for reminding me I haven't downloaded thimbleweed park yet!

I've got to say I don't have much of a GOTY. The closest for me would be FF14 Storm blood but I've really not played that many of the big hitters this year sadly.

Without question it's Forza Horizon 3 for me. Definitely the best driving game ever made in my opinion.

I'd go with Thimbleweed Park. On the Switch. Having it there is a good signal for other third parties.

Breath of the Wild is good, fairly exceptional in scope for a handheld game, but the annoying difficulty spikes, lack of recipes for previously prepared meals, slightly shonky stamina system and repetitive boss battles really detract from the overall experience of exploring and finding things to do.

Sonic Mania was a return to form, but only a solid high rated game for me rather than the best game I'd played this year. Best platformer of the year perhaps.

Not played the new Mario yet. Or Doom. Or Wolfenstein. Or loads of others.

Snake Pass was perhaps the most disappointing game of the year, though I probably just about got my money's worth out of it.

Rime, Mario, Zelda, NieR and Hollow Knight would be my shortlist.

Overall, I think I'd have to go for Zelda though. It's far from a perfect game, and people have compiled vast tomes on the things it does poorly, but I'd think that the positives still outweigh all that and it's good to see some genuine ambition again from Nintendo in a franchise that's rested on its laurels for rather longer than it needed to.

Xenoblade 2, Thimbleweed Park and Wolfenstein II are the games on my to-play list that might potentially also get a look-in before the year is out.

People anit going to like this, but I found Mario Odyssey massively overrated (and im a nintendo fan boy). And I honestly don't get the 100% review score it got and in the same issue cuphead only getting 68%
