Most Annoying Console to Set Up

Post by Rockford » Sun Nov 05, 2017 6:01 am

I got out the Wii the other day but lost interest about half way threw set up.
Maybe it's my age, but it's such a arse on.
Anything worse?

Agreed - anything from the Wii onwards - particularly those that "require" an internet connection for updates or even to simply look about itself online (In some WiiU games the Miiverse functionality is downright invasive - such as in Wind Waker HD0, where you get the "Miiverse bottles" washing up on the shore every 5 bloody seconds...)

Of course, having to set up a full network of games consoles is a bit of a chore too. I've never had the opportunity to set up a 8-way Gamecube network for some epic LAN Mario Kart Double Dash (the most myself and an old friend had the kit for was a 4-console LAN - we couldn't even get enough players together to go for that, never mind a full 8-way setup)

Try setting up one of those Halo rings you see at some UK events

Ok its easy, just getting people to not quit out of multi player and go set up there own multiplayer mode isnt
Ive seen Mario Kart LAN at one event, people still went split screen four player, even with a sign saying its on LAN

Multiplayer games wise
Ten player Bomberman is HELL
The pads get tangled, people mess up the options then wonder who they are

Any game where you have more than four pads gets messy, any game with tons of options menus pre game is a pain, Nintendo got it bang on wit Mario kart and Smash as they are just an extra menu that you have to go into, otherwise its just play as its all optional

I'd think that a PS4 with PSVR would be the most complex console to set up at the moment. Still, it's not like it isn't worth it if that's what you're into, and there's less work than a PC with an HTC Vive.

Absolutely... I just bought an Xbox One X and it was a pain in the arse to get it to run HDR between my TV, amp (both of which are less than 12 months old) and HDMI cables.

A Mega Drive. Well, not a Mega Drive, but a Mega Drive with 32X and Mega-CD leeching off of it. Particularly when you lose the little cable that goes from MD to 32X...

I've heard that a few tea-lights above the telly actually works as a substitute for the sensor bar for some reason, lol...

Yeah, the pointer in the Wii U is basically an infra-red camera so a couple of heat sources in the right places should do the trick.
