Tempest 4000 Announced

Thoughts on this?

This must have definitely softened the blow for Jeff when txk was pulled from the Playstation store.
Personally I'm quite looking forward to seeing this, I never played a huge amount of Tempest 2K but even now I still play a decent amount of Space Giraffe and is one of my go to games for a "just a quick go" moment.

I do wonder if this will have anything to do with the Atari Box?

Exciting news regardless 8)

It's good to see that they've sorted out their differences and can work together once more. I just hope that they've given Minter a fair contract this time.

I'm guessing that it'll be a new improved take on TxK brought into the official series, perhaps with classic levels and music.

After Polybius I'm hoping there's a VR option and it's released on PS4.

Came here to post this.

Huge Jeff Minter fan here. I've played a good bit of Tempest 2000 on my Jag, but more Tempest 3000 on the Nuon. Insane amounts of TxK on Vita as well. Was really disappointed to see TxK be blocked from a PS4 release by "Atari." Tempest 4000 is great news. I wonder how close it will be to TxK, in the end?

I attended the SAAM Arcade 2017 event in Washington DC and took video. T3K and Nuon were represented, tho no Jeff. :-)

My immediate thought was the new Atari Box, looking for some killer apps that could be loved by gamers regardless of whether old farts or young'uns perhaps.

I look forward to hearing more for sure

More like good to see they 'asked' Jeff code them a new version of Tempest so he didn't get sued for over TxK!

Believe it or not, but Minter was always keen to do a deal with Atari so that TxK could become an official sequel. We could have had this coming out two years ago if they'd been prepared to play ball back then.

Better late than never, I suppose.

Yeah I'm another that gets the feeling this is just a legal way of legally freeing TxK from the vita, it'll be the same game with a lick of paint.

I guess that's not a bad thing though, it's natural home is VR and the game deserves to find a larger audience. I've always thought it's crazy how far I am up the leaderboards when I have a lot of room for improvement, it would suggest only about 10 people in the world have truly mastered it.
(It's download only so I doubt there's a large number out there that have just never synced their scores)

T2k appeared on the ill-fated Jaguar, T3k appeared on the Nuon, a console that failed even more miserably. Minter's Tempest games have form for being brilliant but appearing on very niche hardware, so Ataribox would be a good home for T4k.

Has anyone picked up Tempest 4000 yet?

So far I absolutely love it and I made a video review of the Xbox One version too:

I was tempted, but read the early reviews and the PC version is apparently buggy as hell.

Maybe when the first patch is out.

I saw this was coming out and then I saw the price!

I want to support Jeff as I've loved almost all his games but this price is far too high.

I know it's Atari that probably set the price, but they seem to be out of touch with reality IMO.

At £14.99 I'd have jumped in day one even if there is a distinct lack of VR which is a massive oversight, again probably Ataris call.

I hardly think it's expensive, I paid £50 for Tempest 2000 back in the day, adjusted for inflation that's over £100!

I've paid more for far worse games over the years I can assure you!

I think there is this stigma that because it's not a triple A release from a big publisher that it's somehow not worth it, but I can see myself playing this game for years to come, unlike many of the big name games where you complete it and then never touch it again.
