What 20 games would you have picked for the SNES Mini?

Post by TheDude18 » Thu Jul 13, 2017 12:02 pm

The SNES has a fantastic back catalogue, one of the best of any console. So the selection of games for the SNES Mini was always going to be a talking point. Even though the 20 (and Starfox 2) picked are a great range of games, with quite a variety, but I’m sure every fan of the console has their own list 0f 20 games. Here’s the current list of games for the SNES Mini (EU Version) –

• Contra III: The Alien Wars
• Donkey Kong Country
• EarthBound
• Final Fantasy III
• F-Zero
• Kirby Super Star
• Kirby's Dream Course
• The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
• Mega Man x
• Secret of Mana
• Star Fox
• Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
• Super Castlevania IV
• Super Ghouls'n Ghosts
• Super Mario Kart
• Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
• Super Mario World
• Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
• Super Metroid
• Super Punch-Out!!

So which ones would you change? And for what?
Here’s my picks…………

• Contra III: The Alien Wars
• Donkey Kong Country
• F-Zero
• The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
• Mega Man x
• Secret of Mana
• Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
• Super Castlevania IV
• Super Ghouls'n Ghosts
• Super Mario Kart
• Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
• Super Mario World
• Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
• Super Metroid
• Super Punch-Out!!
• Desert Fighter
• Killer Instinct
• Zombies Ate My Neighbours
• Pilotwings
• Sunset Riders

That was tough! I tried to cover as much game types as I could yet I still couldn’t squeeze in an out an out shooter (I had to leave Parodius out) As soon as the mini was announced I first thought of Pilotwings. Simple, addictive and break from the norm. Sunset Riders is an arcade favourite of mine and with two joypads, I wanted to include more 2 player games. The same for Zombies….. and I also love the gauntlet style gameplay with lots of nods to old horror films. Killer Instinct is my go to fighter. Yes it’s not that accurate to the original, but it’s this version I’m used to. I just couldn’t take to the N64 version. My last pick, Desert Fighter is probably the least known game on my list, but I loved it. I loved Desert Strike on my mate’s Megadrive and this was a more than worthy alternative.

That's a good question, and great topic.

I have to be honest though- I am rather ignorant on SNES. Had the Megadrive in the day. So I am looking forward to getting the Mini SNES to play some of these games for the first time! Some I have played, but most I haven't.

I would like to have seen 10 triple A sellers like mario and zelda etc then 10 titles that were hidden gems that are usually overlooked.. things like Plok and skyblazer i think ot was called ather than sequals or updates to other games.

Would just open it up to VC and/or carts, a 21 games limit is ridiculous nowadays.

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=54147

I wasn't too far off, got quite a few of them predicted with my original line up. I think 20 games is too much of a compromise personally, it means taking out a few either on the basis that I don't personally like them, or the ones I personally like and see as a part of a genre under represented. the ones that I am not so keen on personally are big important games for this to sell though as they are usually very popular.

tmnt
smw
pilotwings
super gouls n ghosts
super mario kart
earthbound
super star wars
nhlpa hockey 93
fzero
chrono trigger
secret of mana
super metroid
shadowrun
international superstar soccer
killer instinct
super aleste
axelay
super castlevania iv
super bomberman 3
contra alien wars

so that is more like an impossible list that would never make it to market, or if nintendo did some sort of custom (you build your own 20 game mini snes) 20 games is just too much of a hard choice to make with such a great console that had so many great games!
