Possibly the ugliest console I have ever seen.

Retron really need to sack their designer.

I'm not a fan of the design, but if it lets you play Atari and NES games on a huge TV then that's pretty decent. Providing it doesn't cost a fortune...

That NES one doesn't look quite so bad as it was ugly to begin with.

The new Flashback Gold is the way to go if you want an HDMI 2600

Eh, they look fine. Wondering how they are able to mimic those designs (2600 & NES) so closely and not catch a cease & desist letter, though.

I've got a couple of the 'Retrons' around here somewhere. Also a small silver one called (I believe) 'Yobo'.

I believe it's going to have 4:3 and 16:9 image options.
Switches on the front might not be final - don't look like they actually move.
£50 tops and I'll get one.
Decent enough design, I think they're limited to fitting it into their standard design shape.

It does seem rather cynical after the release of the Retron 5, but the success of the NES Mini has clearly made Hyperkin have a rethink. I'd imagine we'll get SNES, Mega Drive and PC Engine variants shortly.

Despite the design it interests me. 2600 while not a system I grew up with is still one I'd like to pick up games and hardware though the only I see games are at cons and the original hardware being out of my current range.

If the price is cheap enough and there are no big issues with the emulation/playback, I'll pick one up and a bunch of carts.

The new Flashback Gold has HDMI input, a slot for an SD card, Activision games built in, original Atari joysticks and is officially licensed.

In all fairness though, that's not what the Retron 77 is.
It's a way to play your existing games on a brand new TV. That's going to be of value to some.

I suppose so, but you can mod an original 2600 to do that pretty easily if you wish. I have a 2600 Jr. that connects up to modern TVs and it looks fantastic.

The average punter isn't going to faff about modding old hardware. They wan't an off the shelf solution to nostalgia, they'll play for a bit then throw it in a cupboard.
