X arcade question

Post by Doddsy » Thu Jun 08, 2017 7:41 am

I was reading the discuss thread about joysticks and it got me thinking about my X Arcade Dual Stick that I bought in 2004. The one that plugs into the keyboard connection on your PC. I was wondering whether I could.

a) Somehow plug it into my USB port.
b) Can I somehow use it on my PS4 or Xbox 360?

It's a quality stick that I'd like to use again so any ideas?

Cheers.

Yes, there's an adapter to convert it to USB. Might need a little work to fit it, but not an overly complicated job, sticks are pretty simple.

Dunno about using it on consoles. I suspect they won't like it without some further converter, which may also exist.

You can grab a USB connector for it BUT!! the computer thinks of it as a keyboard, the way I used to to it I had a Ps1/2 addaptor for it and used a PS1/2 to USB connector to get it to treat it as a joystick

Not cheap for something that I feel is generally and ok stick, try to nab a pair of MadKatz SFv fightstick minis, they work on Ps3/4 and PC

But having a digital stick as keyboard is perfect for PC gaming and emulation!

Not really, its annoying to have to set up, some PCs might not like having two keyboard plugged in

Each to their own.

My own arcade stick uses a keyboard output as I prefer it that way. Even old games that don't support sticks can have the keys redefined to work with it.

Maybe its because I was a Spectrum owner I've got used to it? Redefinining keys to work with cursor joysticks was a way around it on early games.

You can get adapters for them, but they are expensive.
