World of Spectrum down?

Post by Antiriad2097 » Tue Jun 06, 2017 8:11 am

Just tried to access WoS and it looks like there's a hosting problem, just get the following message: "This Account has been suspended."

Anyone know what's going on?

was trying to look up some reviews on there last week and it just looped back to the main page when I clicked on things. Just put it down to a server issue.

Apparently it's to do with all the legal issues surrounding the Vega+

That's a different issue. Links to mag reviews, ads etc are all broken on the current WoS after moving the data to the new system. It'll eventually get sorted out but its a long slow process. Any broken links just go back to the front page.

Laird's right, it's part of the incredible ongoing circus that surrounds the Vega+.

I think WOS has had its day tbh.

Hopefully not. It would be a great shame if the archive was lost.

Indeed.
I just think WOS is past it now. It used to be the "go to" place for speccy stuff but it's been a mess of broken links for ages, the community isn't what it was and the Vega+ nonsense ... well it's done the place no favours really. It's a real shame imo.

Lee posted the other day on Facebook that the trolls have been contacting the hosts trying to shut down WOS

Lee knows the hosts quite well so it shouldn't be a huge issue but perhaps due to the trolls flooding the hosts with complaints they've temporarily suspended it

Just shows you some of the crap RCL/WOS have had to put up with

I must admit I used to be annoyed with RCL for their lack of comms but I understand now the crap they have to put up with.

Yeah, it says that they had a large number of reports on the message now, so maybe it will be sorted out soon. That said, use the Wayback Machine if you need anything from there, until it is back up.

I'm worried this could be a significant nail in the WOS coffin. The forums never really recovered properly after they went down and switched forum provider a couple of years back.

Having been a regular reader and occasional poster since 2002-ish, I am finding it's decline quite saddening.

I didn't even realise there was any sort of brew-ha-ha regarding the Vega+ until a couple of weeks ago, and I found that out on the Facebook page, not the forum.

There were some people mouthing off about "all this Vega sh1t". I thought the Vega+ had been scrapped last year! Never liked the look of it anyway.

This is not actually true.
Lee Fogarty has accused Darren Melbourne and Paul Andrews of orchestrating multiple requests to get games removed.

Both have denied this.

It also turns out that the Account Suspended notice was not the OFFICIAL image, but one created by Lee.
