Classics remade as multi-player versions

Post by Celebaglar » Thu May 31, 2007 3:30 pm

Just curious how many of the old classics have been remade into multi-player games in this online age.

NOTE: I'm talking about old classics being remade complete with gameplay and original "feel" - if not necessarily original look - rather than franchises from way back when that have been remade in a modern image (like the XBox Spy vs Spy game - which of course was a license in the first place)

I'll start off with

Jet Set Willy Online (Jet Set Willy)
Midnight/MU (Lords of Midnight/Doomdark's Revenge)

There must be loads more...

I say we should have a multiplayer Bubble Bobble
The dry fart for Barry MacDermot and all the cancer patients in the Glamorgan testicle ward

I had a quick bash on the XBLA version of Jetpac the other day. Despite the new version not being up to much in the single-player department, I enjoyed the two-player aspect a lot.

It wasn't bad, but it lacked the inertia of the original which meant there was a bit less 'bounciness' to the swooping and diving.

Also, because of the current obsession with particle effects there's a hell of a lot more going on visually - especially that flashing fuel. "I get it, already! The fuel's over there!"

Jetpac on XBLA is one of the best games on the system. I'm not particularlry good at it but great game. Only 400 points too, that was a pleasant surprise, I'd have happily paid 800.

Do you think there'll be more Ultimate games?

The border they used certainly implies so.

Bubble Bobble was two player wasn't it? I rember playing on the Spectrum and it was 2 player.

Maybe a Carrier Command game (like Hostile Waters) would be fun. Set it up like C & C Generals we it is you and another player versus the computer. That would be cool!

The article in RG 39 suggest they're well up for it, though they were a little cagey and reluctant to make an announcement. Knightlore was mentioned as well as Cyberun, Snake Rattle and Roll, Blast Corps (not likely) and Lunar Jetman. I think it probably depends on the success of Jetpac Refuelled.
