Tough choice between the C64, Amiga and PC

So putting my sensible head on...

The PC.

Can emulate C64 and Amiga :D
No. Correction - it should be an Amiga, specifically the B2000. That way you could buy a PC Emulator on Zorro card(the "Bridgeboard") and emulate DOS games. Plus, you could get "Amax" to emulate Apple Macintosh games. Then get a 5 and 1/4 inch floppy and also emulate C64 games(there's a version of "Vice" that runs on the Amiga; but before that, there was "Go 64". So that is all the emulation needs done). You'll also have the advantage of being able to play Amiga games!

Pity that MPM isn't here to see my reply!

I want to say Amstrad CPC but if I'm honest and remove my rose tinted glasses then this is the easiest question ever.

Super Nintendo.

I would still pick the master system I grew up loving as I have so many great memories of the wonderboy games and Psycho Fox.

No way I would have chosen a Nintendo. I may have gone for an Amstrad CPC, but I think in the end the best choice is a PC Engine with the whole library of games

I'd go with the Amiga. Stuff anything Nintendo or Sega (well, maybe not the Dreamcast) and no way anything Atari. The Amiga was (and still is) awesome.

CPC or SNES it's very close but the fun I had with RPGs on the SNES seals the CPCs fate. Especially action RPGs.

Indeed. Plus, as I pointed out - you could emulate lots of other systems as well. :D

PS2 because it plays PS1 and that is allowed because it's a standard feature. :D

I'm a PC gaming fan. My current setup:
  • VR Ready Yes.
    Processor Intel Core i5-6400.
    RAM 8GB.
Graphics Card Nvidia GeForce GTX 970.
    Storage 1TB hard drive.
    Accessories Dell Keyboard and Mouse.
    Processor.
Thinking about upgrading to i7 6700K but I'm also looking at some options here: http://www.armchairempire.com/Reviews/g ... pu-reviews

Any recommendations?

Except that the OP specifically asked for an 8 or 16 bit system, so it isn't allowed. :P

If we're going to open it up to any system from any period in time, I'll go with a modern desktop PC that can emulate both the PS1 and PS2, and pretty much everything else that's been mentioned.

Yes indeedy, on the first page I chose Amiga to fit the 'era criteria' for the topic. A great system to have if you're being treated to the all the bells n whistles! But did add if it were any era I'd opt PS1. PS2 makes for sense with backward compatible though! :)
