Square selling off Hitman developer

News for fans of, or those who like, the Hitman franchise - Square Enix is selling off the Hitman developer, IO Interactive:

Agent 47 is one of the cooler video game anti-heros, a contractor assassin human clone in a corrupt world, but the games are also some of the best stealthy shooters around, especially part 2 and Blood Money. Absolution was a bit of a miss-step with it's overt focus on cinematics and linear, "shoot em all" gameplay, but the newest episodic Hitman is pretty good and more of a throwback to the older games. The future of the Hitman franchise as such is at question, but I would not write off a potential successor in spirit, given that the IO employees form some new group and try crowd sourcing (as many veteran devs already did). The question is only if the "AAA" space will eventually be filled just with "big" franchises, giving way for all lesser appreciated (although Hitman has quite a fan following) franchises for indie devs to cover with their substitutes or take-ons.

Hitman is whatever. What I want is a remake of Freedom Fighters.

I have the most recent Hitman game and it's very well done. However, and this is the sense I get with most games these days, there is just something missing that you can't quite put your finger on.
