Atari Flashback Classics Collections XB1/PS4

Post by Jimmy Corkhill » Tue May 02, 2017 9:38 pm

Sorry if this has already been posted, had a search and could not find anything.

I just spotted these two collections on Amazon, after having a browse of the XBox One titles:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Atari-Flashbac ... +flashback

Managed to pick them up a bit cheaper at Base.com, £15.99 each, loving the artwork, so didn't want to download them, would rather have the physical release.

Anyone else taken a punt on these collections? 50 games on each collection isn't bad. Have I made the right decision? Might be a bit steep, but I rarely treat myself to new releases these days, so what the hell, looking forward to them.

I was going to buy them at Argos last week as they were £14.99. Kept renewing the reservation only to find they have put them back up to £25 each. Sod that!

Sounds a good deal, but why would they need 2 volumes when they could easily get them on the one disc?
Heck why stop there, why not have 5200, 7800 and Jag games on there?

First thing i thought when i saw this. Compilations used to be split into volumes to fit them on a disc/cartridge. There's not exactly going to be that issue on a blu-ray disc here. Having said that, i'd still would like to pick these up at some point.

Saw these on Xbox One a while ago. It's a pity that in order to play Black Widow and Space Duel on my One I'd have to buy a pile of unwanted 2600 dross at an inflated price. No chance of me ever doing that.
If it's slower than me, dumber than me and it tastes good ... tough titty.

£15.99 at Base.com, not sure what their services is like, but I know it's been despatched this morning.

Agreed, these could easily have been put onto one disc, wonder if they will release a volume 3? I'm not overly familiar with the Atari systems, so not sure if there is stuff missing from these two compilations.

Any other retro compilations for the Xbox One?

--Edit

Aside from Megaman Legacy Collection, I've had my eye on that one also.

At least there's no Venetian Blind taking up a slot, but it still seems hard to justify two volumes.

Well, a 2nd MM Legacy Collection has been leaked by a rating board containing MM7-10. You also have Rare Replay and that Disney Afternoon Collection that was recently released.

I would be interested in these but for literally a handful of games from each set. Will they ever become £5 bargain bin fodder though? I can't see them selling loads of copies and clogging up shelves like some of the PS2 retro sets did (hence why they became insane value pre-owned).
Retro is a state of mind, and cares not for your puny concepts like dates and calendars.

Midway Arcade Origins is backwards compatible with Xbox One and well worth picking up.

I want to pick both up, but I totally agree they should be on one disc, I was waiting for them to go down in price a bit first.

Atari's back catalogue is astounding, I don't think any other company has one even near the volume of theirs. Sadly Atari waste 90% of it just putting out the same old collections of 2600 games. To think the modern Atari/Infogrames includes Gremlin Graphics, Ocean Software, Imagine, Firebird, Rainbird, Silverbird, Microprose, Beyond Software, MicroStyle, Spectrum Holobyte, Hasbro Interactive, Imagitec Design, GT Interactive, Eden Games, Reflections, Accolade, Philips Media, Shiny Entertainment, Odin Computer Graphics, Atari Corporation and many more.
