You and the bloody Lynx! :P

Is it the best official handheld version of Robotron? I suspect that now goes to the GBA version which is pretty decent, off the Midways Arcade Greatest hits cartridge, but can't say I've played the Lynx one.

The lynx version is awesome, it does a great job in spite of not having the "twin stick" ability.

The SNES Williams Greatest Hits collection version emulated on a PSP is my favourite handheld version, but that's kind of cheating. ;-)

Well Williams themselves did the Lynx version and they actually adapted the original code and digitised all the original effects. So it plays incredibly close to the original. But thankfully they added 10 difficulty levels so it's nowhere near as hard and also adapted the controls to work with 2 buttons and a joypad really well. You actually autofire all the time and then A rotates left and B rotates right, it's not as great as twin sticks of course but its more than adequate.

Total Carnage for me. If that doesn't count (was made by same people but under "Midway Games" flag), then Smash TV.

Voted Sinistar but Robotron and Defender are quality games too.

My favourite Williams game is actually Medieval Madness on The Pinball Arcade.

I'm surprised that nobody's voted for Defender; it was far and away their biggest hit and one of the early games that defined scrolling shooters as a genre.

That said, I'm not surprised that Robotron is walking away with it.

Yeah, I am really shocked Defender doesn't have any votes

Take Sinistar out of the poll and it would have got my vote maybe. I might have gone Smash TV though. Defender and Robotron are classics but I'd rather play Dropzone or Llamatron for a more enjoyable retro fix of that type if I'm honest. Sinistar is kind of still out there on its own. The legacy of a game isn't even a factor. It's about how much I enjoy them now rather than what they did or didn't do back in the day.

I went for Defender, which just pips Robotron in my opinion. It seems I am in a minority!

Just so many classics in this list. I loved Defender, but utterly sucked at it. Joust was one I never played in the arcade- we just never saw them, but loved that on the many great home versions.

Ultimately though, it just has to be Robotron

Looks like Robotron 2084 won this one by a landslide.

I would be interested to know who voted "other" and what game they had in mind though. :?:

Defender is too hard work with the controls, which is why I much prefer the VCS version. From that list Robotron would have to be the choice although I do prefer llamatron on the 1 meg ST!
