Megadrive : Castle of illusion

Recently played through it again. Always go back to this game and love it every single time.

One of the best platform games of all time IMO. And the music is just fantastic.

Agreed it's a great one to go back to.

It was the game that convinced me to get a Megadrive (within less than a minute of playing it round a mate's house. Time has been kind to it too, unlike many of the other platformers of that era.

Probably one of the only Megadrive games I've actually played from start to finish and really loved every second of it. Makes me want to get my Megadrive out of storage and play it again now....

It never gets old. It's oddly dark in colour and not what you would expect from a Disney platformer. The storm level has great music as well.

Its one of the best mega drive games, and certainly the best 16-bit disney game.

The graphics, sound and gameplay are all top notch.

I remember seeing it in Mean Machines, and knew i had to have it. Its a perfect game.

10/10

I must give this game a go. I grew up with the Game Gear version and absolutely loved it, and this 16-bit version looks even better.

Wasn't there some sort of Xbl/psn remake? Or is the original still the best way to play it?

I didn't take to the remake, but then again I did play it on a tablet with horrible touchscreen controls.

The MD version is the one that I found to be most fun & replayable.

The remake just didnt have the same charm.

I love Castle of Illusion - even at its hardest it still isnt too difficult and it has some really great graphics to boot. The Cake/Milk level is one of my favourites.

World of Illusion was ok but the colours felt a bit wishy washy for me - CoI was crisp and cartoony.

Can't sing the praises of it enough - it is in my regular playlist and holds happy memories for me.

Yes, there was a PS3 "remake" but it's more of an homage than a remake. There's roughly 50 billion differences between the two.

They also released the original as a PSN title and it plays really well.
