Would you rather...

Have a retro gaming magazine that was devoted to all types of classic home computers or all types of classic consoles?

Would definitely be consoles for me, they generally gave a much better gaming experience.

Should add a poll!

Computers. Though I'd buy both if the mag was split.

Consoles. Simply because I didn't grow up with an Amiga, C64 etc so have no interest in them

I am interested in both aspects, but computers only marginally - so I would only buy a console mag.

What I would buy... binders, lots of them ;-)

Computers. I only had/have a VCS that's a retro console. Everything else is computers and that's what I used and saw at friend's houses and talked about at school. No-one I knew had consoles.

I wouldn't buy both mags, as I have little interest in consoles, though I did get into them from the PS1 onwards (once the dualshock and MGS came out), and I've had all the Playstations since.

I do read every article in every issue of RG, so it's not like I refuse to read console articles or anything. I'm just not particularly interested in most of it.

My perfect RG would probably be 80% computers (excluding the PC) and 20% consoles for some of the more interesting console things.

Do we think the market is big enough for this? As much as I'd like an 80s computer RG, I'd be worried it would fail, then we'd lose everything.

I'm not sure. With the re-hashing of articles, repeating games, filler lists, current gen and smartphone stuff, is there enough, quality, content to fill two mags?

And this is the worrying thing with this poll. Younger gamers tend to be console gamers, so the poll will inevitably skew that way. It makes it look like the interest in computers is small, risking less mag coverage, or worse, none at all.

We can't be far from a point where we have readers with no significant interest in SMS, MD, NES, SNES, arcade games, maybe even PS1, Saturn and N64. That kid who got a GameCube for his 5th birthday is 20 now.

Why choose? A game is a game whatever system it's played on.

Is a well written and researched article about a well loved megadrive game going to be better/ worse than one about a well loved Amiga game simply because one system has a keyboard & the other doesn't?

I've gone for both as I have a mild interest in 8 and 16 bit home computer games and a much bigger interest in all consoles.

If the mag were to be tailored to my specific needs then it's main focus would be less 8 bit computer games which it seems to be and more 16 and 32 bit consoles... but hey that's just me. Different strokes etc.

Both. Retro gaming is as much about computers as it is consoles and both have made invaluable contributions to the video game industry.
