Nintendo Discontinuing Wii U from this Friday

Post by Shinobi » Mon Sep 26, 2016 6:03 pm

It appears that the Wii U, Nintendo’s current generation home console is closer to its end than anticipated. Retailers in the UK are being asked by Nintendo to put their final orders in for it.
“Nintendo is now taking final orders on Wii U consoles. Those that haven't ordered by the end of next week (Friday September 30) will not be able to order the Wii U again from Nintendo,” From this Friday I guess Wii U officially becomes Retro If it isn't in production any more it's pretty much Retro..

I'm guessing this means that the Wii U will be going off sale several months before the NX comes out.

Ah well, at least it clears up what Nintendo meant when they said the NX wouldn't be replacing it.

Just think how much the rarest Nintendo console ever will be cherished by collectors years from now though.

Good news for me. Have been interested in picking one up, but not in paying much for it! Damn they have held their price pretty well. I'll be keen to pick one up with a few titles for the right price

That's a bit harsh. Personally, I'd say that it holds its own against any other console this generation in terms of exclusives. There's easily 30-odd that are worth a look, depending on your tastes.

On the other hand, if you're looking for cross-platform games where it's got the definitive version, five is probably about right.

Smash brothers
Mario kart 8
Splatoon (ok not played it, but it looks decent, to bad about the lack of local multi player)
Jackie chan
Zelda Hyrule warriors (not played it, but you cant go really wrong with a warriors game)

Hyrule Warriors is the only one of those with a passing appeal for me. Even then it isn't a 'must have', more something I might play after the good stuff. I'd include Mario Kart, but the Wii version sates my need for any more of those.

Disappointing line up tbh. Thought I might pick one up eventually, but this will just mean prices rocket due to 'rarity'.
