Advance Wars wins. Although in more detail:

1. Advance Wars. Perfectly designed for the machine, a strategy game you could play for a few minutes or get lost in for hours.
2. Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap. A great original Zelda game, every Nintendo system needs one.
3. Mario Kart Super Circuit. Because Mario Kart.
4. Metroid Fusion. A great Metroid game, every Nintendo system needs one.
5. Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. It's bizarre but brilliant.
6. Super Mario Advance 4. Because Mario Bros. 3 is my favourite Mario Bros. game, and this was it in portable form.
7. Final Fight One. I loved Final Fight, and this was one of my favourite arcade games squashed into a handheld. I bought it before I even had a GBA, I was that desperate to play it.
8. Rebelstar: Tactical Command. I love turn based strategy, me.
9. Astro Boy: Omega Factor. I didn't get this until well after I'd got a DS but it's just so playable.
10. Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2- took the Playstation game, put it in 2.5D and squashed it into a handhelds. So playable.

10pts - Super Mario Advance 2
The greatest game of all time in your pocket? What more could you want?

9 - Mario Kart Super Circuit
Not my favourite MK game but certainly my favourite GBA racer. Unlocking the SNES tracks on all the 150cc cups is still one of my most satisfying gaming moments.

8 - Street Fighter Alpha 3
An astonishing conversion. Crawfish really went above and beyond, even squeezing in extra characters.

7 - Bomberman Tournament
One of the few worthwhile single player Bomberman experiences and one of the very few RPG-styled games I've ever enjoyed. That and the multiplayer is as good as ever.

6 - Sonic Advance
The best Sonic since the Mega Drive days, shame the sequels got a bit too gimmicky.

5 - Denki Blocks
Handhelds are perfect for puzzlers and this is the one I've put most time into, followed by...

4 - Columns Crown
... then this...

3 - Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo
... and look, here comes another one...

2 - Super Bust-A-Move
... and who'd have thunk it...

1 - It's Mr. Pants
... one more to finish things off!

What's the game prices like nowadays?

My faves were fire pro advance and the Mario games

Edit: just remembered link to the past was in it and also the most addictive game of all time - Mario golf

Depends. If you want boxed copies you're going to need a bigger boat (full of cash).

There is a GBA Everdrive available now which might be the way to go if you're on a budget.

Not familiar enough with the GBA library to give a top 10 but these are a few of my faves:

Sonic Advance - This is the game that came with my GBA back in the day and even in 2002 it was a real nostalgic treat to buy a new Sonic game in store that had all my favourite features from the old games and a few new features as well.

Driver 2 Advance - Played the hell out of this when I got it and as close to 3D GTA as you're going to get on the GBA.

Super Mario Advance 2 (ports of Super Mario World and Mario Bros) - This was my first real experience of either of these games and they were a delight to play on the GBA (even on the original model without a backlight).

Columns Crown - Grew up with the Sega Game Gear and as soon as I saw this game in store it was a must buy. Everything I could ask of a GBA reboot.

Super Street-Fighter 2 - Always thought the "Round One Fight" guy sounded a bit like Ned Flanders but still a very sound conversion.

No order:

Pokemon Emerald
Robot Wars Extreme Destruction
Mario Power Tennis
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
Final Fantasy VI Advance
Final Fight One
Spyro: Season of Ice
Pokemon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire
Spiderman: Mysterio's Menace
Metal Slug Advance

Loads of others that I haven't had the chance to play yet due to other machines getting my time and the cost of certain titles...
Retro is a state of mind, and cares not for your puny concepts like dates and calendars.

I've deliberately limited myself to one game per series otherwise it'd be very much dominated by the sequels to the first few picks. Anyway, here goes:

10. Fire Emblem
9. Rebelstar Tactical Command
8. Advance Wars
7. The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past / Four Swords
6. Golden Sun
5. Metroid Fusion
4. Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3
3. Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town
2. Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis
1. ChuChu Rocket!

In order from my favourite:

Golden Sun
Golden Sun The Lost Age
Final Fantasy 4
Tales of Phantasia
Advance Wars
Pokemon Ruby
Fire Emblem or FE7 if you follow the japanese nmbering like i do)
Sonic Advance
Metroid Fusion
Legend of Zelda Minish Cap

Golden sun will always rank highest for me as Motoi Sakuraba made a wonderful soundtrack and the game is fun and lighthearted with some great characters.

I picked Sonic Advance 1 as i felt 2 ramped up the difficulty a bit much, especially with the special stages and 3 wasnt as memorable despite being a goodgame.

I was massively into strategy turn based rpg style games when the gba came along so advance wars was right up my street. I found it hard to pick between fire emblem 6 sealed sword or 7 burning blade but 7 had it due to being a larger ger game, better difficulty curve and some good useful main characters (i liked Roy but he took forever to get useful)

ToP and FF4 were some of my favourite SNES games so to get updated and expanded versions is excellent.

Metroid fusion and minish cap are both pretty good games, not the best in their respective series' but still!

It seemed wrong to use all 5 gba pokemon games so i settled on my personal favourite, ruby, as it had my two favourite pokemon debut (Aron and Groudon if anybody cares =p)
