Guitar Hero Live.

Post by the_hawk » Sat Jul 16, 2016 2:52 pm

Must've been a bit of a flop this, as just picked it up for 20 quid in Argos this morning.

Trying to decide if I like it or not.

The 6 button controls are definitely an improvement, though they take a bit of getting used to after using the 5 button controller for a decade.

The music selection leaves a LOT to be desired though, very few classic tracks & a lot stuff I've never heard of, though that may say more about me than the game!

The GH live is a bit "Mad Dog McCree" but I'm enjoying it & the novelty hasn't worn off yet.

The GHTV bit is excellent though, it appears to be a good way of doing dlc, with the live music channels meaning you never know what you're going to get, but being able to earn/buy credits to keep the songs you want in your collection & the list is HUGE. A bit worried that the best part of the game could have the plug pulled at any minute though when Activision decide there's no profit in it any more.

I was surprised to see the Wii U version in CeX yesterday for only £18. Fairly tempted seeing how I would like a complete Wii U library and before it comes as tricky to find as older GH guitars....

Played a lot of it this evening, really getting into it now., Just wish they'd picked some better tracks for the GH Live bit.

Definitely well worth the £20 spend though, I'm loving unlocking stuff playing through the music channels.

Picking up the PS3 version today, thanks for the heads up. I think I've played more Guitar Hero than anything else on PS2/3.

Yeah, the single player music is terrible for the most part. I found the Katy Perry round strangely enjoyable though :?

Hmm.

New button layout on the guitar makes it much harder to play, though I do sort of like it.

Menus are horrible though, they've hidden stuff so it's not easy to just pick a song to play, or to change difficulty settings (I'd been playing for a while before I even found the menu for that, since it isn't on the front end).

Not sure what the difference is between Live and GHTV though? Both just seem to play random tracks I don't really want.

And the GHTV button doesn't seem to do anything.

And I can't figure out how to choose a decent GHTV channel. Flicking the dpad switch thingy on the guitar just seemed to swap between 2 channels, one of which had awful modern poppy music, while the other had fairly awful rock stuff that was rattling notes off far too fast for the skill level I'm currently at with the new setup.

Is this compatible with old guitars? Can I use this guitar with older games?

And can I use Singstar mics, or does it have to be the GH one? (I have both, but my Singstar ones are in a drawer by the telly).

Ive also picked this up today (PS3 version)

I've got a complete Guitar Hero collection for the Wii (bar working drums!) but I've been keeping an eye on this new iteration for a little while, so with the new price drop I thought why not! The on disc tracklist doesn't excite me (pi$$ poor compared to World Tour) but it has on the whole had positive reviews, with the improved controller and online options. Also the PS3/Wii U guitars are cross compatible if it helps someone trying to pick up more that one guitar or own both systems. Will give it a spin later..........Once I finish the dreaded lawn!
