Re: Nintendo releasing a new NES !
It does look pretty cool, I'm sure people will say this overpriced as the games can be easily emulated for free, and even call Nintendo delusional as though Nintendo are selling this a competitor to modern consoles, but clearly this is just a smart little collector's item for retro gamers.

Would happily pay $60 for it to just be an ornament

These are going to fly off the shelves in the lead up to Xmas. A great nostalgic gift for thirty somethings.
For some the novelty will wear off fairly quickly (expect them to be a staple at car boot sales in a couple of years) but for those who have the patience and the inclination to get into games like the Zeldas and Castlevanias there's plenty of value to be had.
I'll be picking up a console and extra controller day one, but I may get my girlfriend to wrap it up and give it to me for Xmas!

Even Final Fantasy and Bubble Bobble are not on either Wii U or 3DS VCs.silvergunner wrote:Must say it's the best third party support Nintendo have had in ages

Jokes aside I do like the look of it. Even Konami bothered to give the go ahead for castlevania which is a miracle considering the idiots running the company now.

You'd be surprised, today in the US Konami brought Turbografx games over to the Wii U Virtual Console (As Hudson Soft had the rights to a lot of that, which now Konami does now.)silvergunner wrote:Jokes aside I do like the look of it. $2 per game (and its a pretty decent selection without much naff filler) and the hardware thrown in for free. Bargain imo.

Between this and Pokemon Go, it feels like Nintendo are starting to wake up and flex their muscles again after a few years of seeming to drift aimlessly a bit. Hopefully the good vibes the company are starting to generate will help give NX sales a push.

Re: Nintendo releasing a new NES !
That's just typical of Nintendo. All the hype about the NX and then they sneak something like this out on us.
It looks great and there's a decent selection of games for a throwaway price, and HDMI output too. I'd guess that means they're going to use an ARM SoC rather than a recreation of the NES in hardware. That could open up some interesting possibilities if you can access the firmware, but suspect that it'll all be locked down tighter than a gnat's chuff. Ah well, it probably couldn't do anything you couldn't manage with a Raspberry Pi anyway.

Some preorders are up. £50 for the console, £8 for an extra controller.

You know what would have been a neat feature if the console was capable of it, a version of the NES Remix games.
