So, I've dug my Commodore C64 out of the attic.....with pics

Post by TheDude18 » Wed Jun 22, 2016 2:45 pm

Hi all,

Been meaning to re-visit my childhood for sometime and dig out my C64 from the attic and today I finally got round to doing it! Sadly I haven't had the time to set it up in the games room as I need to make space for it and I'm not sure it will still fire up after 20+ years being boxed away. Also I really cant remember what survived after moving house several times, lending/selling games, moving to other systems and so on. Anyway I decided to take some photos during the 'un-boxing' as I thought a few on here may appreciate it so here goes.......

Image
The C64 Mindbenders pack! Box has seen better days but the inner box still seems in good nick

Image
The Night Moves side of the box

So many games, so many memories. Hope it still works.

Image
The supplied Data cassette and it's more reliable older brother, which I believe is from a Commodore PET? Also a Cheetah (125?) Joystick

Image
The pack-in Joysticks and games. The dreaded Cheetah Annihilator!

Image
Some games! Sadly, I'm missing a shed full of games, including Turrican 1 & 2, Creatures 1 & 2 and Myth on Cart. Kicking myself that I didn't make more of an effort to look after my collection. Had tape cases (remember those?) of Hit Squad/Kixx games.

Image
More games! Sadly these dont have a cover (Some magazine cover tapes didnt have any though) Note the odd copied game too.

Image
Next, I've got to fit it in here somewhere! I've already disconnected the PS1. Let's see if it works first though!

It is! It's a nice little unit too. I'm no guitar tech, but I like it for what I use it for.

I tried one out in my local shop. Decent sound for a wee portable lil combo

It should work fine, every C64 and Spectrum I have got from the car boot sales over the years have worked, they are really well built and seem to just work.

This is interesting as I did the same thing with my old C64 about a month ago. Mine was the Light Fantastic pack. I didn't have the lightgun though, or my Konix Speedking joystick which I think must be in another box somewhere.
It all worked fine though. I gave it a good going over with an air duster and actually opened up the case and cleaned it out inside too. I was getting a weird buzzing sound at first which seemed to be an issue with the power lead but after cleaning the contacts with some WD40 it went away.

After the thrill of getting the C64 going I bought a ZX Spectrum +2 off Ebay and have been having fun with that too. Must be something in the air!

That's a nice condition c64 my original C64 is yellowed and missing a key it did have a lot of use, lucky it still works:). I have 3 C64s in total including a bread bin covered in Minnie Mouse transfers lady owner.. That Myth cartridge is insanely expensive now remember finishing Myth, really good ending with the lady from the intro and some digitised speech.. Still have my original Ninja Remix cart brilliant animated intro on that, doubt I could finish it these days

You should get the USB drive plugs into the Commodores tape deck and instant loading on the original hardware

Hope it works for you! That reminds me, there's a working C64 somewhere at my mother-in-law's house - or at least it was working 10 or so years ago. Must dig it out again. Just a shame the only two games I could find were Ghostbusters and The Dark Tower

I know, I'm kicking myself and I'm tempted to rack down an old friend as between us we had quite the collection of games and formats. But also think its a bit cheeky to catch up with him to track down some gems from 30 or so years ago.

I've got Battle Command on cart but no box or instructions sadly.
