Any NES fans?

Post by David » Fri May 13, 2016 6:18 pm

I had a nes as a kid, but being a kid I obviously didn't have loads of money for games so only really played a handful of games on it

Been playing the NES emulator on my DS and been having great fun

Any recommendations?

Have been playing

RC Pro Am 2
Chip n Dale
Duck Tales
Ninja Gaiden
Punch out

Ninja Gaiden is hard as hell. Have got to level 4-2 and given up for the nigt BUT it is great fun

One thing I have noticed is that the controls on these games are outstanding. All very sharp crisp controls that work perfect.

Kirby's Adventure - full of charm and there aren't too many NES games with its level of invention.

Rad Racer - best racing game on an 8-bit console.

A Boy and his Blob - creative, innovative and loveable. Puzzle platforming at its best.

Good suggestions so far. I'll add:

Megaman (any of them, but especially 2).
Faxanadu (an awesome side scrolling RPG)
Batman
Ice Climber
Adventure Island
Gradius 2
Circus Charlie
Exerion
Super Mario Bros 3 (and don't dismiss 2)
Star Wars (and Empire Strikes Back - both are rock hard though)
Contra

I grew up with a famiclone and games were plentiful (if not in English or 100% legal). It will always be my favourite 8-bit system.

Any recommendations, the NES has dozens of quality games.

Instead of the usual Megaman, castlevania. Mario etc. going to go with a few that I think are great outside of the usual ones

some Natsume/Taito ones

Shatterhand
Power blade 1 and 2
Shadow of the ninja / Blue shadow
Action in new York/ S.C.A.T.

others

Mighty final fight
Whomp em
Gi joe
Gi Joe atlantis factor

Yes, it was a great system with tons of great games. It just might be my favourite Nintendo system.

Famiclone owner here too. Gotta love those pirate "100-in-1" carts...

How are prices for nes games just now and are there still plenty going around or are they getting scarce?

Would quite like a real console

Some of my Favourites include-

Super Mario Bros 1,3
Ghosts N Goblins
Gradius
Rad Racer
10 Yard Fight
Star Force
Xevious
Commando
Rush N Attack

I love the Nes, still have my 1989 original and it works fine!

Nes games are a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to pricing them. Some go for a few quid whereas others like Stadium Events boxed and in great condition can go for not far off £1000.

Mario tends to go for between £5 for a ropey version and £20 - £30 for a nice one boxed. I do have a few bits for the Nes available though some are untested...

Some of the best rarities are the ones no one thinks about. My CIB copy of Elite cost £15 a few years ago when it wasn't that big a deal and these days a lot of them have surfaced (probably because of Elite: Dangerous) and the BIN men are asking anything from £40 - £150.

The NES is effectively a popularity contest. You can expect to pay £30+ for loose copies of Zelda and Castlevania because they're the games everyone wants to have while less common games go unnoticed because they're not particularly fashionable.

Solar Jetman - a really good Thrust type game with inertia. Still very playable.

Solstice - a nice isometric 'Knightlore' type game.

Cobra Triangle - a love it or hate it game where you control a speedboat and compete in challenges (uses the Pro Am engine).

Off Road - good arcade conversion.

Track and Field 2 - really liked this game but you may want to invest in some type of 'Turbo' pad. You can use the zapper for the shooting.

California Games - great version of this multi-platform classic.

I'd also second the recommendation for Snake, Rattle 'n' Roll - a really fun game.
