Retro game related Movies

Post by ashmck73 » Tue Apr 19, 2016 10:16 am

I just watch Bedroom to Billions - a documovie about the gaming industry in early 80's Britain. Fascinating movie - it basically went through everything I lived through as my gaming journey started. I encourage anyone who hasn't watched it to at least checkout the trailer - http://www.frombedroomstobillions.com

Can anyone recommend any other movies - videos like this relating to early days in the gaming industry.

You should watch Commercial Breaks on Youtube. It's not a retrospective documentary but was shot at the time and looked at Imagine and Ocean Software and their contrasting fortunes. It's a fascinating look at an industry which has changed out of all recognition.

I have actually seen Micro Men - it was great. Coming from Australia we didn't really get the Spectrum out here so had only seen them in Magazines and stuff. Had heard of Sir Clive Sinclair but didn't know he was that much of a nutter :D

Thanks for the link to World 1:1 - will check it out.

Just thought of another Retro Games movie I have seen. It's called The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters. It's a documentary where they follow this guy around who has beaten the Donkey Kong world record but wasn't officially recognised so he is at it again trying to beat it and his run ins with the official record holder (who's a complete douche). Well made and great watch.

Can read about it here - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0923752/

He is. He should never have left Little Mo.

yeah - I realise I was probably a little harsh with my observation about Billy Mitchell - but - it's how he was portrayed in the documentary. Maybe it's wrong - maybe it's right - but it made for a good good vs evil feel to the doco.

Oh, it works forthe movie, absolutely, and the persona Billy adopts can be pastiche for these events, but in reality he's a regular guy with a good sense of humour.

How about a game screenshot quiz? Amiga, DOS, Megadrive and Commodore 64.
