Probably more accurate to say the consoles support the traditional mainstream retail market. Games on shop shelves and in catalogues etc.
Yes, and I'm sure we all know that even the console manufacturers will abandon the retail market once they've build up their on-line digital sales to a sufficient level.
Antmeister's comment on triple-A stuff is just a subjective throwaway remark. It can easily be applied to the bulk of indie stuff, where it looks like there's masses of variety but it's actually just the same genres and ideas being copied and reconstituted same as always.
Yeah, it's just the pithy equivalent of my single figure percentage comment. Regardless of where tastes lie, most of us think that most games are crap, but it's the ones that aren't that keep us interested.

One of the the things I like about the indie scene though is that it's keeping a lot of otherwise dead genres ticking over. There isn't a massive amount of originality required for that; just a desire to make the games and keep costs manageable so they can turn a profit on modest sales.

I'm running FMT 2016 on Linux Mint on an old tin with 4GB RAM, dual core processor at 2.3 Ghz and an HD 5450 graphics card so I think that's an emphatic no.

I believe that's somewhere in the fine print of the Steam licensing agreement. :)
