Best demos for 8/16 bit systems

Post by ivarf » Sun Jan 03, 2016 4:41 pm

There are an awful lot of demos out there for many systems. I have just seen a few of them.
Can anyone recommend good demos for 8/16 bit computers and consoles?
My favourite so far is batman 4ever for the Amstrad CPC.

I hope you like worms, because you just opened a can full of them...

There are so many and for so many platforms (many you wouldn't know even existed or are possible) that I don't even know where to start. Well, start with two Amiga classics if you search youtube for "Jesus on Es" (music demo) and "State of the art" (check the related "9 fingers" too).

I've just seen this:

http://kotaku.com/programmed-demo-revea ... 1794561961

It won 1st place in the 4K category. Incredibly, it's done in 256 bytes, which is the same length as this post. I'll have to run this on my C64 :-)

Demotopia is a good starting point for Spectrum demos:

Most of the content is shared with a much larger multi-platform site, Demozoo:

Second Reality by Future Crew was the DOS demo that set a new benchmark for PC demos in the early 90s. Put the PC on the map vs the Amiga.

There's also a C64 version

How about a game screenshot quiz? Amiga, DOS, Megadrive and Commodore 64.

I might as well give a link to Ultraviolet, one of the best recent Spectrum demos:
