Yep, did this with Gran Turismo as a kid left it on for around 2 months, 25 days, then switched it with Final Fantasy 7; which I milked disc 1 (aimless wandering/stupid high level) for a good month before I had enough to buy a memory card. The first 4 months of 1998 everyone.

Ive left consoles on overnight before but nothing like this. Just shows how reliable the old nintendos are...

This may be the case, but its at least a somewhat creative way for their 15 minutes of fame rather than lining up to audition for talentless shows like x factor or Big Brother.David wrote:This was posted on here a while back.

I just can't imagine 20 years without either a powercut or move of address, or many many other things that could have happened in that timescale.

Re: SNES left switched on
The only game I can remember leaving a machine switched on for was LCP on my c64. I left my wee digital friend on for a whole week. I had to cover the red light on top of the computer so that my parents wouldn't notice it was on over night!
LCP didn't die. Just turned green and was very uncooperative!

What damages electronic devices is powering up - so leaving something on for a long time isn't as damaging as you think.

There is a lot of truth to that,
When I used to work in car manufacturing back in the day we were all told to turn the lights of on workstations when we went on our breaks.
Turns out that it used far more ebergy to start them up again after 15 minutes than it did to actually leave them on and it had much more of an impact on the lifespan of the bulbs.

Re: SNES left switched on
I recall reading somewhere that it was estimated that you reduced the lifespan of computers by about 10 seconds with every single power-off that was done. I haven't a clue on whether there's any truth to that, so don't quote me on it.
The longest I've ever left my SNES on would've been about 3 weeks running when I was playing SNES Doom. Zero saves, zero cheats - and zero restarts. Sadly I got wiped out in Episode 3

Must be slow if the likes of the Daily mail and the Sun have covered it

The batteries are still fine in many games I have, he should take a risk and turn it off, back up the rom and save data to one of those new fangled retro devices.
