Retro Gaming music - stuck in your head.

Post by shiftytigger » Tue Dec 15, 2015 12:47 pm

Maybe I'm on my own here but sometimes i find myself randomly humming , whistling , tapping or otherwise singing tunes from games . Usually ones maybe only I will recognise as well.

Common ones are

Ninja Warriors,(spectrum)
Midnight Resistance,(Spectrum)
Sonic the Hedgehog (ending) (MD)
Sonic Final Boss Battle
Turrican 2 (Spectrum)
Zanthrax (Spectrum)
Rainbow Islands (Spectrum)

Ok so there is a bit of a commonality there , but hey , its my childhood.

Anyone else out there ?

All the time, most often SID tunes or the odd arcade title like Space Harrier.

But then I listen to these more than 'normal' music anyway, so its to be expected.

I'm always humming the tune to sonic the hedgehog. I'm not even a fan of it!

Pac-Mania, Pac-Land, OutRun, Double Dragon and Paperboy are my chief offenders.

Lots of old sega and nintendo game tunes.

The best ones are:
Street fighter 2
Sonic (obviously)
Alisia Dragoon has nice music in it.

Stryker's Run (YMO - Rydeen)
Wipeout (CoLD SToRAGE - Messij)
Nemesis the Warlock
NHLPA '93
Goldeneye (Dam)

Bubble bloody Bobble. That damn tune has been in my head nigh on 30-odd years now.

But the worst,,, the VERY VERY WORST offender of all.... is WONDERBOY. Especially the C64 version. Play that once, JUST ONCE, I DARE YOU, and see if you can overcome the subsequent decades-long torture you will experience from having heard it.

Its almost as bad as when I first had a whiff of my mother-in-law's breath, that's just something that programs itself into the very cells of your body.

Bubble Bobble and Tetris are both stuck in my head - and have been for well over 20 years now.

Most of mine are the standard ones - Bubble Bobble and Out Run. Also often have the Cobra theme tune running in my head ! I used to play that game a ton so i often hear that menu music on the Speccy version

Hearing the Gameboy versions of Tetris or Super Mario Land take me back to the early 90's as well

Nothing stuck in my head now but I did have the overworld music from Chrono Trigger stuck in my head when I played that, probably would do again if I played it again.

The Last V8 is a recurring one for me.

And the high score music from C64 Commando.

Not quite a game theme (but related to one), and I blame Swainy for it, but I keep getting the new Retro Asylum theme in my head. I wouldn't mind if it wasn't so awful, it was much easier when they used the Sanxion loader.

The boss fight music from Midnight Resistance on the Amiga is the one I always get. It's mainly Amiga music, a lot of Sensible and Bitmap stuff. Also the music from Marvel vs Capcom 2, despite everyone else seeming to hate it, I quite like it.
