Snes for the win!

Last Ninja told me that the Snes pad is the best pad in the history of the world ever:)

Gamecube, easily.

SNES first and foremost (might I add that it's influenced virtually every single pad - and most handheld system control layouts ever since...), with the Gamecube's a close second for most games. (I did tend to cramp up if I played too much Metroid Prime though...)

The NES pad is just too angular, but all the other controllers I think are fine to excellent, I would have to give another nod to the Wavebird controller, only changed the batteries once in a decade, feels good in the hands, the only thing I would say is the Z button is in a slightly awkward place.

SNES controller without a doubt for me. My first proper control pad I owned, and still use them today (none have broken on me yet so very durable) as they are a joy to use whether for their original intended purpose on SNES games, but also for Gameboy games on the Super Gameboy, as well as emulators via the USB Super Smart Joy.

Its just so comfortable to use, has great button arrangement, and everything is clearly spaced out. D Pad is phenomenal and the shoulder buttons really were a great innovation at the time.

Since you raised it, part of this is down to build quality on the official SNES pads.

I picked up a couple of what I thought were US pads from ebay (I liked the parma violet buttons), but on opening them turned out to be obvious fakes. Cheap bendy plastic casing really affects the feel of them, and the buttons/dpad are softer, so while overall its the same design, its just not as precise.

Nintendo didn't skimp on these things and the pads benefit from it.

gamecube is the nicest one to use but looks awful. I've never been a fan of the N64 pad and find it quite awkward,it would be a lot better if the d-pad and stick were over to the left. So I'll have to vote for the SNES

Wii u game pad.... when it's used properly.

It's far more comfortable than it looks.

Snes controller is uncomfortable to me for extended play, n64 is just plain hard to use and the cube controller is comfortable to hold but feels a little sloppy to me.

The Wii remote; not for the motion controls, but for finally having decent screen-pointing functionality in a console.
And the separate Nunchuck meaning you still had analogue control, but you didn't have to sit with your hands clenched together around a little pad.
That you could turn the controller sideways and use it as a gamepad was a really clever, but sadly under-used feature.

It's only flaw was that when using it as a pointer, most of the buttons were inaccessile without some horrid finger contortions.
What it really needed was a top button you could jog left/right as well as press to fire, as the one thing it failed on was turning around in an FPS.

SNES by a country mile... but I also have a soft spot for the Wii Classic Controller.

I might have said N64 if I hadn't recently tried to use it. I used to love using this pad but all these years later it feels utterly wrong. SNES is comfy, robust and so simple to use so it almost got my vote. I've chosen the GameCube pad. It feels really good in my hands and works faultlessly.

The Wavebird is the jewel in the Nintendo controller crown.

Ruined by the digital triggers.

Need for Speed looks amazing, but is frankly unplayable on the Wii U.

The SNES pad was the first one I used where I didn't immediately think "I'd rather use a joystick". All pads before that were rubbishy toys by comparison. It altered my opinion of console gaming. A classic.
