White (ok, that's Karate Champ, but I don't like the Street Fighter games).
E Honda - Grew up using him, and still play as him today.
Always Chun-Li, she had powerful special moves that were relatively easy to pull off, as well as being agile enough to never feel like your character wasn't good enough.
Blanka - he's got to be the most interesting one, anyway. I tend to pick Ryu these days, but Blanka was the character I picked the first time I stood in front of a Street Fighter 2 arcade machine.
Ryu. he is not only my favorite SF II character but one of my all time favorite game characters.

Dhalsim. Though I prefer Ryu and Blanka these days it was Dhalsim that originally drew me to SF2 in the 90's so he gets my vote.

Ryu, he's the face of the series and the starting point for anyone that wants to learn how to play.
Ryu, he seemed like a good guy. Did anyone ever get on with bandy legged Dhalsim?
Guile. His theme goes with anything!
I'm terrible with him, but I do like Zangief. Just a great, fun character.

Ken for me.Did used to play eddie honda a lot back in the day though.
Dhalsim's outstretched limbs enabled an experience not quite anything else with fighting characters at the time, so I rather enjoyed the advantage of a longer reach than my adversaries.
Ryu - First character I picked on the arcade and been a favourite since.
Ryu, Except on the 3DO version where he WASN'T wearing white with a red band. Blue and orange or some such blasphemy.
