Best Amiga game for category

Post by Retrobussola » Fri Oct 09, 2015 10:07 am

Im'm from Italy where Amiga was very popular and I've been happy that it was not only an "Italian case". I'd like to know from you which are the best games for you. I think that could be a great idea for us all maybe to discover new pearls that we didn't know about.

As great as the amiga is, this poll shows how lacking it is in many areas.

but for me some great titles were

Point and click - Monkey Island
Sports - Sensible world of soccer
sim - Championship manager
shooter - Apocalypse I suppose....not much to offer there really.
Run and gun - Turrican
Racing - Stunt car racer

Not going to even bother with platformers TBH, as evidenced by the fact that games like Robocod and superfrog are considered the best shows hoe poor the choice is.

Yeah, we get it. You're not a fan of the Amiga.
For those of us that are, these lists actually go to show how strong the computer is and the great diversity of quality games available for it.

What :?

I just called it a great machine and listed a load of games I think are great on it.

I just happen to think its a bit poor in certain genres, how does that translate into not liking it.

I also think the Snes is crap at Strategy and sim games. I love that machine as well. since when can you not like something but still be aware of its shortcomings.

I listed great games in about half a dozen genres and said it had nothing I liked in one genre, way to ignore all the positives and concentrate on the negative.

The computer does sims and strategy very well, and wasn't lacking in decent sports game either. Platformers were a weak point. I'm afraid New Zealand Story, James Pond & Rainbow Islands don't compete with the likes of Mario & Sonic.

Thought you made good points, and as an Amiga fan can't disagree with what you have said.

Driving games, I don't think anybody has mentioned SkidMarks yet. I didn't play it much at the time but I liked it a lot.

James Pond, New Zealand Story and Rainbow Islands (in particular) are all superb games on the Amiga.
Yes platformers are better on consoles, we all know that. That doesn't make all Amiga platformers poor by default, as real owners and fans of the system know.
RodimusPrime, you came to an Amiga best game thread and then talk about its perceived weaknesses. That's why I called you out on it even if you did mention some games you really liked.
It would be like outdated_gamer going to a console thread and saying he thinks some games are great, but of course consoles are lacking in areas compared to PC. Who cares.
