Supposedly "great" games you tried and hated

Post by David » Mon Oct 05, 2015 2:48 pm

I only recently tried panzer dragoon 1 & 2 for the first time recently and found them atrocious. i can't see what the fuss is about

now I know 3d games don't age well etc, but even playing on a crt TV I had no idea what I was shooting at, and the controls seemed terrible too

any "great" games you tried for the first time long after their release and didn't like?

Assassins Creed, all of them.
I do smile when I see it abbreviated to Ass Creed on gaming websites though, but then I'm a bit of a child.

That's what makes gaming so great though, different people like different games and there is such a wide variety.

I love SFII, Zelda, Mario etc, but have no issue with anyone not liking them as its all personal preference.

For me its stuff like jet set willy and manic miner and a lot of the Ultimate games. They play awful IMO.

Plus serious fight sims, Fallout and Elder scrolls games.

I also get bored to tears 2 minutes into games like Defender, Missile command etc.

Hated is a strong word, maybe disappointed would sum up my feelings better for Sabre Wulf. I played it on the Rare collection recently and its not really anything special in my eyes, I really enjoyed other older games on the collection but this one frustrated more than anything. Naff combat and a map that is to big for its own good, especially as most screens look almost identical to each other.

NiGHTs is another game that just never clicked. I love the music but hate the boss fights, which is why I tend to never get very far on the game and just give up quickly. I've still never finished that damn game.

On a more recent note its easily Dead Space 2. There is a lot of that game that I really like, but the lack of a dodge button kills the game immediately for me, the combat gets insanely frustrating really quick since they pile on more enemies than you can physically deal with at times, so damage is innevitable. The QTE's all sucked on that game as well. That said the atmosphere and level design was amazing, I still really want to play it again in case I can sway my opinion some what...

Oh, and in terms of point and click puzzles that ruin a game - Grim Fandango just ties my brain in knots. Another case of me loving the game world, story and characters but not being able to read the minds of developers in order to solve the puzzles for chapter 2 onwards.

Any genre of RPG, i tried to get into and play them but the gameplay just bores me and loss interest very quickly, dont have the patience esp now im older.
Zelda, Pokemon, World of Warcraft etc anything of that nature, i understand they are good games and vastly different but i hate that genre in general.

I agree with all of those! SF4 = massive disappointment and agree with its floatyness!
FF7 was a bore fest.
Grand Theft Anything
Mario games apart from the original Donkey Kong
Daytona and it's horrible music
Nights, just didn't get what the fuss was about.

Not sure I hate any particular game..but I never "got" elite. Watching barely moving wire frame graphics and crashing into space stations just wasn't my thing.
