(Kickstarter) Shadow Gangs: 80's ninja arcade action revival

Post by ShadowGangs » Fri Oct 02, 2015 3:12 pm

Hi Retro Gamer community;

I am excited to announce that the Shadow Gangs Kickstarter is now live here:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/18 ... on-revival

Please share the news! and thank you!

The kickstarter date is now set, it's the 25th of June 2016

I am happy to announce that the Shadow Gangs demo is now available in the downloads section here.

A new video has been uploaded here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iy-ZpxWKEaQ

I am not new to retro gamer as I've been and still a subscriber, but this my first post on this forum.

I've been working for some time now as part of a team on a 2D HD action game that aims to capture and improve on the best of what the 80's arcade games gave us.
Games like Shinobi, Bad Dudes VS Dragon Ninja, Shadow Warriors and other ninja arcade games are it's main inspiration.
The project was in stealth mode, but now we feel it is in a state where we can made it's existence public.

It is still WIP but we plan to have a working demo soon.

Here is some in game pictures and characters:
Demo level (WIP):

Main Character "Dan":

Ninja enemy "James":

Hope you like it, I'll be happy to know what you think of it. PM me for a link as this is my first post and i dont want it to appear spammy

Thank you!

Can I play as a ninja instead of the rather camp Dan in his lycra cycling outfit?

Some people don't like the blue outfit as it remind them of soccer players.

Dan will come is different colored outfits, not just the blue one, and he does look better on for example the black one. I didn't post that color because originally this is how it was created.

As for playing as the red ninja James, I can tell you that while testing the game, I enjoyed playing with it a lot (although he is not meant to be playable).
His problem is that he doesn't have projectile unlike Dan.
But has other strong points like roll attacks and far reach melee attacks.

It is definitely a possibility to have him as a main character along Dan.

We'll see how thing develop, and James might get his promotion :D to playable character.

You mean football.

When you say 'different coloured outfits', do you literally mean that same horrid lycra thing with a pallete change, or are they proper alternate outfits?

I have to agree with Whats already been said. the Enemy ninja james looks like a much better design to have as a main character. I like the idea of the game but not sokeen on the look of the main chracter TBH. will be keeping an eye on progress.

I am happy you are interested in this upcoming game.

I like criticism when done in a polite way, and a lot of people have criticized Dan's outfit and want it to have a more traditional ninja style looks.
I want to say that this will happen, Dan is an UFC fighter and a ninja enthusiast so he will put his ninja suit if you want to.

Will keep you updated here and on the website too.

For anyone interested by this upcoming game:

Dan's got a new look!

There was a lot of complaints about it,and we just won't let the main character to be less appealing that other characters.
Dan will also transform to a proper ninja mid level.

Here is the new and final look:

It's seems really interesting, it remembers me Ninja Commando. Any project to convert for different systems?

Conversions might happen later. It will all depend on the reception the game will have.
