1. The Gravity gun from Half Life 2 - no other gaming weapon has me grinning like a loon like that one does.
2. The Auger from the Resistance games - Fire through anything, not great being on the receiving end though.
3. The Gattling gun in Wolfenstein 3D - No other gaming gun has ever sounded so dangerous.
4. The sniper rifle in Halo - stupidly powerful, accurate, with one of the finest targeting screens.
5. RCP90 - You felt you could take on an army with this thing.
6. The remote mines in Crusader No Remorse - Let them go and they walked on legs with you steering them to your target.
7. Gears of War's Lancer, powerful, accurate machine gun, with built in chainsaw, hell yes!
8. R-Types Beam laser - Timed right, this was awesome.
9. Half Life 2 Crossbow - Pinning soldiers to a wall is never dull.
10. The shotgun in F.E.A.R - up close this would literally take a target apart.

1) Super Shotgun (Doom 2) - BOOM! Click-Clack BOOM! Click-Clack Enough said...
2) RCP90 (Goldeneye) - Carnage! Who didn't enjoy ripping the train level apart with this beast?
3) Ripper (Unreal Tournament) - The sheer mayhem and carnage this causes in a tight space is just evil
4) Rocket Launcher (Quake 3) - Rocket Jumping bliss and so much fun to master leading your shots in the dialup days
5) Laptop Gun (Perfect Dark) - A portable sentry gun, what's not to like?
6) Spread Shot (Probotector/Contra) - Easy mode enabled but loads of fun
7) Flamethrower (Gunstar Heroes) - There is just something about using this in the opening level that is so satisfying but I don't know what it is...
8) Shock Rifle (Unreal Tournament) - Loads of fun with instagib enabled but even more fun when using the secondary+primary mini nuke combo
9) Desert Eagle (Counter Strike) - A plain old handgun but that noise is soooo satisfying to hear + it has power to boot
10) Super Gravity Gun (Half Life 2) - The gravity gun is great alone but when it is supercharged at the end of the game it becomes a whole new beast.

No love for the BFG? I know there's never enough ammo for the thing, especially if you've also got the plasma gun, and it's irritatingly possible to miss at point blank range, but just firing the thing and watching an entire room of demons being gibbed doesn't get old.

In no order...

1. Flare Gun (Timesplitters Future Perfect) - Inaccurate but so satisfying to land a hit!
2. Ruhm (Valkyria Chronicles) - Selvaria's hybrid sniper rifle/machinegun weapon is a monster in the DLC missions
3. Handcannon (Resident Evil 4) - Fully upgraded it can take out bosses in one hit! Plus it sounds awesome...
4. Bomb (Mario Kart) - Nothing more satisfying than dropping it behind into a chasing pack
5. Minigun (GTA series) - Stupidly powerful against cars and choppers
6. Spas-12 Shotgun (Black) - Always seems to save the day in a pinch plus blowing doors open never gets old!
7. Bicycle (Yakuza series) - Really funny picking one of these up and throwing it at a thug
8. Dumpster (Madworld) - A dustbin that cuts enemies in half. 'nuff said.
9. Krauser's Bow (Resident Evil 4) - Very powerful, very fun.
10. Double-barrelled Shotgun (Doom) - Had to be on here.
Retro is a state of mind, and cares not for your puny concepts like dates and calendars.

Rocket Launcher (Quake 3) - It wasn't just a weapon, it was a way of moving around when playing competitively. Being a pro at 'rocket jumping' proved you were a great player at the game.

The Redeemer - (Unreal Tournament) An overall standard rocket launcher weapon, but its alternate fire of being able to manually control the missile upon fire, was an amazing guilty pleasure.

If I can only pick one then the Doubled Barreled Shotgun of Doom 2 is the weapon of choice. Its just so satisfying to use. Immensely Powerful but only up close, plenty of ammo but slow to reload. A perfect balance when taking down a level full of Imps to a Spiderdemon.

Close but no cigar -

The Red Shell - Super Mario Kart. A heat seeking shell. What more do you want?

The Rocket Launcher - Unreal Tournament. How much fun is this? A typical rocket launcher with an alternate mode which turns it into a kind of grenade launcher. Did I mention you can also hold down the fire button to fire up to six rockets at any one time?

This is what makes UT's rocket launcher the superior boom stick.

The Super Shotgun in Doom 2 is hard to look past.

I'm a fan of the BFG9000 too.

Doom shottie
The best weapon in the game, in terms of usefulness and satisfying sfx
Halo needler
Love the sleek design, and the melee animation looks painful as anything. Being able to dual wield those babies in the second game was a highlight for me.
Mario Kart's green shell
Red shells are too easy! Really satisfying if you score a hit off a rebound.
Juliet from Lollipop Chainsaw's er...chainsaw
Loved the way it was wielded and all the extra things it could be upgraded to do in the course of the game.
Goldeneye's proximity mines
I'm thinking of multiplayer hijinks here, trying to place them in as well hidden a spot as possible was fun.
Ivy from Soul Calibur's sword
Not my favourite character, but her weapon has a great design.
Skyrim's Wabbajack
Every time I play a new character I always end up getting this, completely silly but good fun.
Dig Dug's pump
I can't be the only one who likes to have sadistic fun with the last enemy on a map by inflating, then waiting, then inflating, then waiting...
Bomberman's boxing glove
Nowhere is safe now.
Gauntlet's potions
All enemies hurt at once? With a cheesy sound effect? Job done.

1: Baseball bat - Double Dragon, awesome feeling when you first realised you could pick it up

2: RPD - Call Of Duty 4 Modern Warfare, absolutely godly, just cut everything and everybody to pieces

3: Great Scythe - Dark Souls, the game isn't so hard when you get this bad boy to +10

4: Crowbar - Half Life, Gordon wouldn't be the same without it

5: Dagger of Time - Prince of Persia The Sands of Time, it lets you rewind time, how much more power could you want!

6: Plasma Cutter - Dead Space, great for cutting all the alien limbs off

7: The Nuke - Modern Warfare 2, if you got one without cheating it was a great achievement

8: Gravity Gun - Half Life 2, always something new you can use it for

9: Chainsaw - GTA Vice City, forget the guns, this was the most fun

10: Bow - Tomb Raider reboot, superb, probably the best bow in gaming
