Best version of Tetris?

Post by outdated_gamer » Sun May 03, 2015 6:49 pm

There is a ton of Tetris and Tetris-like games out there, but which one would you consider the best of them? Personally, I enjoyed the Speccy version, the GB version, the NES version (both, the official Nintendo release and Tengen's take), Tetris & Dr. Mario on SNES, The New Tetris on N64 (pretty version but a bit easy to me) and some other versions, most notably the many PC versions and I also tried The Grand Master series Arcade versions. There's also been some versions which I really didn't like such as Tetris 2 for SNES and Tetris for MD. If I had to pick just one, I guess I'd say the GB version was best to me, even though the tiny green-yellowish screen was hard to see and the controls not super responsive. I've heard positive things about Tetris DS too but haven't played it. There are several modern versions such as Tetris Ultimate and Tetris Blitz which look inviting but I haven't played them. Funnily, I still haven't played the DOS original, or the other old computer (Amiga, ST, C=64, etc.) versions.

Which version did you like best or would recommend over others?

I have to agree with the original Game Boy Tetris being the best version for me.

I'm partial to a bit of Super Tetris 2 + Bombliss on the SNES, but my best ever Tetris has to be the Gameboy version. Tetris DS is a blast though, you should really track down a copy.

I really like Pokemon Shock Tetris, on the Pokemon Mini, apart from the added Pokemon collecting, there are neat little features such as shaking the tiny console reverses the piece coming down the screen, I always carry it with me.

I quite like the Disney Tetris version that came out on the N64, its got some cool music. You can't ever beat the Gameboy original version though.
WANTED: Mario Party 3 on N64 (just the Box only) ANY SNES GAMES, OR EMPTY SNES BOXES, INSTRUCTION MANUALS or WHITE INNER TRAYS.

I enjoyed the N64 version as well, but still have to say the GB version is the best over

Game Boy. The pure simplicity wins out over any of the "enhanced" versions.

Pretty much the definition of "pick up and play".

Tetris on the original Gameboy is my favurite version

I also own Tetris: The Grand Master 3 DS but gets way too hard to quickly especially ' SHIRASE' mode when the blocks move at light speed

Tetris CDi is quite decent as is the Pokemon Tetris game on the Gameboy colour
Used to own the C64 version

Actually, scratch that posting of mine above. This is the best version of Tetris. And, yes, the blocks are invisible!

Damn, those are some crazy skills. Hard to believe a human is playing that...

Here's a vid of the original game:

The DOS version with the green monitor or GB version seem quite similar to it.
