Gor bored of 360 and I've been playing the Snes and Megadrive a lot actually going back to games I finished, now with the Snes Everdrive there's lots of games I've never heard off

My absolute favorite game at the moment is Snes Magical Poppin which was recommended to me by Ninty

Image

Run Saber the Snes version of Strider

Image

Snes X Kaliber hard as it forces you to learn the bosses attack patterns no way can you beat them first attempt like most 360 games
Image

Muysha not very good and impossibly hard with respawning enemies

Image

I know the Snes has a few Eswat clones and a Metal Slug clone

Megadrive Wani Wani World and Twinkle Tales being a personnel favorite's as I have them from the 1990's when I bought them from KT Consoles

Anything obscure also did the Megadrive have any more scrolling fighters other than Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Sailor Moon and Mystical Fighters

King of Demons - SNES - An amazing action sidescrolling platformer with demonic enemies and evil bosses. Your character has a pistol rather than a whip. More great music. I had to cheat to complete it, rock hard.

Phantom 2040 - SNES - Excellent platform shooter with great colourful visuals

Obscure SNES gold ahoy

I think Treasure's Crusader of Light on the Megadrive is fairly obscure. :D

Not a side scroller - but had a blast on Chaos Engine (2 player ) last night and that was a good few hours entertainment (we were playing the genesis version (soldiers of fortune).

The punisher (quite hard to get hold of ) is great in 2 player mode as well , sort of a cross between final fight and streets of rage .

Some great selections there guys I forgot all about the Punisher and I really like the Capcom arcade game

I own a repro English translation King of Demons probably the most violent Snes games I've ever play that woman getting beaten to death by those Dog Men.. Hopefully Alisa Dragoon on pal should be quite cheap to pick up I know the Jap version is super expensive

Well obscurity is relative, but here are some that I enjoy:

Megadrive:

Sunset Riders. Port of the coin-op. Quite hard but really fun.

Snake, Rattle n Roll. A very quirky and fun (especially with 2 players) isometric game from Rare (it's actually easier to pick up on the NES though).

Ranger X. Was talking about this in the Shmup thread. A really excellent shmup/run n gun hybrid.

Wiz n Liz. Looks like an Amiga game. Rather slight but very good fun and sort of hypnotic. You can get a bit zen with it!

James Bond 007: The Duel. A slightly clunky Bond game with quite nice graphics. It won't be everyone's cup of tea but I love it.

SNES:

Kirby's Dream Course. A weird crazy golf type game. Almost impossible to describe but very addictive. I spent days on this back in the 90s.

Unirally. A very fast and fun racing game. A bit like Olli Olli.

F1 ROC (aka Exhaust Heat). A really slick Mode 7 racing game.

Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures. From the people who did the Super Star Wars trilogy. This one's a bit harder to get hold of but is really good fun (pretty tricky though).

Try Evo: Search for Eden on SNES. I only found out about this game a couple of years ago, but I'm glad I did.

Turn and Burn: No Fly Zone, SNES

Game is now more well-known thanks to internet but it was fairly unknown to me back in the SNES times. It's a pretty good arcade flight sim with nice visuals and good use of SNES' scaling capabilities (aka "Mode 7").

Mystical Fighter, MD

Another game I think is not all that well-known. A pretty good Golden Axe knock off rooted in Japanese mythology. It's just a bit too short.

Dino City, SNES

Fairly standard platformer which reminds on SMW but is rather not that well-known. Gotta love the cover though.

Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow, SNES, MD

Might not be super-obscure but it's one of the best platformers of that era of consoles and I find doesn't get enough appreciation. If you like platformers, I warmly suggest it as it's a great (and quite hard) game. SNES version is a bit better but it's good on both systems.

edit: might as well add Street Racer, Animaniacs, King of the Monsters, California Games II, Wings 2, Top Gear 3000, Joe and Mac, Super Adventure Island, Ristar, Weapon Lord. Known games by us, retro people, much less so for the modern gamer.

If you lack the will to retain any semblance of sanity or willpower, then look into trying out "Shaq Fu" - one of the games I'm ashamed to say that I actually completed back in the day...

Battle Pinball from Banpresto is a cool little Japanese import SNES game.
It has three or four multi-screen tables based around Banpresto franchises like Ultraman.

That's the Jap box art. Its a lively, colourful arcade pinball sim. Deffo worth a play. :D

Excellent idea for a thread & one I've bookmarked for returning to when I have a 16-bit console evening. :D

Dunno how obscure Insector X is, but it's got something that keeps drawing me back to it, and of course Wani Wani World which you mentioned is an awesome game.

Mystical Fighter looks fun
