That is a pretty cool bit of tech, does it include the PS1 backward compatibility too? Looking at the base, its pretty huge and on ebay prices its going for are silly money (since how much does a slim ps2 and 22inch lcd cost separately??). Still, nice bit of Playstation history. Surprised they didn't do a follow up with integrated PS3.

Yes it does have PS1 BC.

Sadly I don't have the box anymore. The price isn't too much more than I paid for it new.

I see you live in West Sussex, i'm across the border in East Sussex and will offer you a round figure of £20 for it and come and collect it. Come on, you know you want to.

I find the PS2 struggles on an LCD mainly down to its heavy use of interlaced upscaling, so games can look very bitty.

Games with 480p options like Outrun 2006 and Ghosthunter look really good though. Lots of 480p NTSC games as pointed out but for PAL, most games won't gain a huge boost via component I don't think.

Not ideal, but if you have access to a scart to HDMI upscaler your TV should should display what you're outputting when you first switch the console on.

It took me ages to source a proper RGB wired SCART cable - I spent years using a 'good quality SCART cable' that was just outputting composite.

Good luck with it all!

As a rule of thumb, if you're playing a 240p or 480i title, RGB SCART on a CRT is the best option. That'll give you the sharpest, most vibrantly colourful image. No ghosting, no colour bleed, no dot crawl. Pure colour values. It's the best signal available for those resolutions, and SD CRT TVs display it best.

Component cables are best if you have an HDTV and/or want to play the handful of 480p games (and higher) available for PS2. There are those people who prefer the crispness of the 480i RGB picture on a CRT even for these games - the PS2 was principally designed to do a nice interlaced picture and doesn't seem to pull off progressive as well as the other 6th gen consoles - but it's a personal taste thing. Component is the best option for a HDTV either way.

batman877 wrote:Just a couple of things to consider...

1) Check your scart cable... is it actually RGB wired? If you bought a 3rd party cable from ebay there's a good chance you're pumping out a crap composite signal through a scart connection.

2) Component cables are REALLY expensive to get hold of for the PS2 these days - if you know different please let me know!
Game do a ps2/PS3/360/WII Componant cable but I seem to rember needing software for it on ps2

Sorry, I meant to say the official Sony component cable is really expensive - I don't really trust third party wires anymore...

I was wondering if component switchers would effect the image quality. I just want to know before I sink a bunch of money into expensive component cables for the PS2 only to find that my switcher makes it look bad.
