If you could buy an arcade machine..

Post by ncf1 » Sat Mar 21, 2015 12:19 am

If you could buy an arcade machine - ok hang on, lets make it easier and say you won a competition by some amazingly generous company and you could choose *3* brand spanking new arcade machines, absolutely any at all from any era of your choice, what would they be?

For me .. hmm.. I guess I'd have to boil it down to perhaps Virtua Striker 2, Outrun, and Powerdrift. And I mean the full setups with hydraulics, sit down cabinets, the WORKS.

I would like the the Darius 3 screen setup, I havent seen that since the late 80's or early 90's and would love to play it again (properly, not emulated)

I would get one of those bar-tops full of Roms like what Nokgod has.

If I had room + my wife would let me it would be full deluxe (motorised) versions of Space Harrier, Outrun & Afterburner. If a squeeze extra one would be full deluxe version of Daytona!

Getting it down to 3 would be tough, but if having room for them wasn't an issue I'd have the Star Wars Trilogy machine, probably the sit-in Space Harrier machine, and just for fun I'd probably have the Sonic Blastman punchbag machine.

I had OutRun for a year, it took almost as long for it to arrive. I loved LOOKING at it in the corner of my living room under the stairs but after a week or two I hardly switched it on unless people came round. It was a huge and heavy beast - I would love another machine but I think it would be some kind of multi game cab thing.

Gauntlet, either Daytona or Sega Rally (and since this is fantasy i'm gonna say a four player cab counts as one machine)... The last might be the Atari Star Wars Cockpit, Space invaders or something with lightguns, virtua cop or house of the dead... Really couldn't decide. I used to really love the space invaders coffee table machine and that would be ace to have as a coffee table in my house.

:D It fulfills my arcade needs, that's for sure.

If i could buy cabs they'd be driving games, namely:

1. Hard Drivin' sit down cab with the full manual gearbox/clutch.
2. Outrun deluxe cab
3. Super off road 3 player cab

or possibly G-Loc in place of Outrun. (The full 360 rotatey one, just for giggles and vomit.)

2 are really easy for me but the 3rd is hard!
1. Gauntlet (my favourite arcade game)
2. Ninja Warriors (adored the multi screen and the game itself).
3. Xybots (I loved the totally original twisty sticks and the game itself is great too) but I was tempted to say Rampage 2 player cabinet :?

Totally miss arcades. Went to Paington a few weeks back and visited the pier arcade of which I have many fond memories and they had about 6 games and loads of betting machines :(
