Games ruined by bugs

Post by neuromancer » Sat Apr 21, 2007 9:27 am

There's been a shadow hanging over me for many years. It was cast by Rambo on the Speccy. I really loved the game (probably more for the concept than the quality of it) - but every time I got to a certain stage the damned thing crashed (I think it was when you got to fly the gunship). Infinite lives pokes were no help. To this day I wonder, was I to blame? did my specific copy have a obscure defect? Was it a cynical ploy to ship a game that wasn't finished?

There's a ton of other games out there with fatal flaws (JSW being the archetype) - anybody care to help compile a list of offenders?

3D Ant Attack was full of bugs , but ironically they actually enhanced the gameplay

Whereabouts in Rambo did it crash ? Was it one of the helicopter bits ?

My copy seemed fine, used to play that game a ton, i 'wanted' to like it more but the scrolling was weird and the way the soldiers lined up behind you wound me up.

Could have been great but always thought Commando was better

Sega Touring Car on the PC had a massive fault with it. Play up to the point you get awarded the prototype and the whole game crashes, good thing I got the bug free Saturn version

The earlier Sensible Soccer games, if I remember, where a bit buggy. However, the worst offender has to be Sensible Soccer 2006. I took that back to HMV because it was plagued with bugs!

The origional Burnout had some horrific crash bugs in the game. On a couple of tracks, if you crashed your car against a wall and went out of the track area, if you did this at set points on the track, your car would fall through the floor, then it would look like it was falling through the sky and the damn thing would crash. Happened on all versions too, not just the PS2 version.

It's something that happens in ALL the versions of Burnout I've played. It does seem to be more frequent on the PS2 though.

Last Ninja 3 was riddled with bugs on the C64, objects disappeared from your inventory making it impossible to complete...

I remember the SWOS games being buggy , especially in valuing strikers

You'd buy a striker for say £600k , he'd be top goalscorer by miles ,and yet be worth half the original value by the end of the season . madness...

A lot of football games have that bug, champ man too, your cheapie top scorer will be worth a quarter of your expensive striker who's only scored 3 goals that season.

Super Street Fighter II X Revival, GBA - A massive bug that made it impossible to fight Gouki/Akuma - the game would crash if you fulfilled the necessary requirements to reach him. You had to deliberately lose a round so that you could only reach Bison and therefore complete the game. The playtesters must have been hung over, or just rubbish at SF.
