The first that comes to mind... the Prince of Persia games are overall more than satisfactory, it's a franchise that has been successfully taken to 3D.

After getting wolfenstein new order today on the xbox one i would have to say that.
It's not often I put a game on and play it for four hours strait, in case anyone is wondering its excellent.

Also I would have to second the gta games.
I'll never forget getting my ps2 and putting in gta 3 expecting another top down view with better graphics, my jaw was on the floor when I first saw it.

Agree about Wolfenstein, fantastically fun gameplay that doesnt deviate too far from the original and still has an engaging storyline. Easily one of my games of 2014. Quite enjoyed the update of Gauntlet aswell on PC.

Double Dragon Neon is excellent, more of that please.

I also really like After Burner climax, wish Sega would update more of their old I.P. like that.

A few Nintendo/Nintendo-based games spring to mind:

A Boy and His Blob
Punch Out
Pilotwings
Donkey Kong Country
Sin And Punishment
Kid Icarus
Metroid Prime
Goldeneye 007
Pratty's trade list, updated (May 2019)!

The Sands of Time, the first one on the PS2- one of my favourite games ever. The sequels, not so much. The reboot of the reboot was crap, and the reboot of that was average.

X-Com is the obvious answer, the new version is in my opinion, better than the original. Metroid Prime was the first metroid game for 8 years and reinvented it completely and was really different, but still brilliant.

Fallout
X-Com
Outrun
Prince of Persia (sands of time only)
Virtua Fighter
Street Fighter (I'm not a huge fan of the updates but they are highly regarded)

The 2008 Prince of Persia game, you mean? It's actually my favourite in the series, a bit easy, but beautiful to look at and fun to play. Followed by The Sands of Time. Great quality games overall, anyway.

Totally agree on After Burner Climax, it captures the spirit of the original game and plays brilliantly.

I'll add the Shin Megami Tensei series, from their MSX/Famicom origins the series has evolved greatly, with excellent rpgs including the Persona spin-offs.

Ended up playing through Double Dragon Neon again last night after spotting it in my games list on the PS3. I heart Skullmageddon. Would Rayman: Origins count as a reboot?
