Snooker/pool games

Post by koopa42 » Sun Jan 11, 2015 3:31 pm

It's Masters time baby! I love my snooker and I love watching it. I also loving playing various snookers games! the best (so far) being the 360 ones, very good indeed but I find there are a lot of others throughout gaming. Which are your favourite snooker games on what systems?

I like the MAME pool (pocket gals  ) and a few others but were there any good ones on the older systems? I remember one on the Speccy and was reminded of it just the other day on a spectrum facebook page

Top game indeed. What other games were there on the older systems? I'd deffo try them out

I enjoyed American 3D Pool and Championship 3D Snooker on the C64.

Of course, there's Archer Maclean's excellent games on various formats, and Nick Pelling's 3D Pool (looks great on the BBC Micro).

Pocket Gal II DX (Arcade/MAME) - sequel to Pool Gal but with more 'realistic' imagery...)

Side Pocket (Mega Drive) - Plays great and has amazing, super cool music.

International Cue Club (PS2) - Plays solidly, has great music but the CPU opponents can get stupidly tough later on.

I also need to recommend the pool mini-game in Yakuza 3. I seem to remember the GTA IV version being quite good too. Oh and pool in Wii Play.
Retro is a state of mind, and cares not for your puny concepts like dates and calendars.

Jimmy Whites on the DC was meant to be ace but I never got on with the controls ..... mainly because I was used to 1 button 8 way games, I should probably revisit it.

Steve Davis games?
Ronnie O'Sullivan Games?
I can't say I remember a Hendry game (odd as that would be)

I might have to have a google for snooker games. I wonder if John Virgo had one.

edit:

Steve Davis on the CPC? what is with the CPC these days on here! Of late it seems to be everywhere!

After a quick google? It looks as if neither Ronnie OR Hendry ever put their name to a game? Steve Davis has and the search throws up a CPC screeny!

Do we think the players have any input to the games? I played 2 of the modern games on the 360 and if the players had any input? it would have been 'yeah, make me awesome and never play safe' seeing as even tactical players just played mega attacking every shot.

And betting scams. No sex attack claims though, that would be inappropriate.
