Games that we are meant to love but secretly hate!

Post by daverage » Mon Apr 16, 2007 7:49 am

This is a question / thread I started a while back on retroremakes, thought I would see the response here :)

Ok. There are certain games we are meant to like as retro lovers. Now I am sure that some of us say...OOooo a remake of dizzy (or what ever) but secretly we hated it then and hate it now!!

So here are a couple to start.

Dizzy. I just never got it. I tried to love it as everyone else said it was great. I tried to love any remakes, but I still just don't get it!!

Chuckie Egg. Another one that we are all meant to love, but again I just never liked it!!

PacMan. Sorry, but why!

Hope this gets a thread started

I don't 'get' most 8-bit home computer releases, but I suppose you had to be there.

I'm with you on Dizzy, but it has to be Resident Evil for me.

Snap. I don't really like the Japanese RPG formula at all really, especially since the advent of FMV cutscenes (with a few exceptions like Panzer Dragoon Saga, Dragon Force etc.).
I prefer western style RPG (Oblivion, Baldur's Gate etc) or tatical/squad based affairs.

Wipeout, Gran Turismo and the Metal Gear series were supposedly great games, but none of them do if for me.

Getting more retro - I always hated Defender/Dropzone, Manic Miner and Jet Set Willy.

Jet Set Willy baffles me, all those style games to be honest. Strangely I had fun with Jet Set Willy On-line!?

Elite i thought i would hate but turned out to love. Chuckie Egg i think is a classic, so playable.

My game however would be the Dizzy series, just couldnt get into them, found them quite boring and shocked to see the large fanbase these games had

Manic Miner, JSW, Chuckie Egg, any racing game that wasn't top-down before (proper) 3D racers, Pac-Man, any Space Invaders/Glaxian type 'games', Mario 1, Final Fight (sorry Mike), Speed Rumbler (not one I'm 'supposed' to love, but I hate it so, so very much), Afterburner, and more recently, Shenmue. I hate them with a passion. When I think of more, I'll rant more.
