Project Zomboid

Anyone gotten into Project Zomboid yet?

http://store.steampowered.com/app/108600/

It's a decent indie survival horror game that is all about killing zombies and surviving for as long as possible. The graphics are old school isometric 3D with a nice zoom effect to help see what you're doing.

The game is still in Steam Early Access and there are quite a few features still to be added (such a vehicles and NPCs), but having played it for a week or more I can say that it is both challenging and fun. I'll also admit that I leapt out of my chair a number of times while playing it.

It's an unforgiving game... When you're dead: you're dead in Project Zomboid - there's no loading in a save game and picking up from where you left off. I guess it's one for the zombie purist.

But anyone who loves killing zombies might like it. The music in particular is excellent, as are the overall atmospherics and game mechanics.

My tips for starting out:
1. Get a baseball bat and go for the silent approach (guns are far too noisy)
2. Attract zombies to you one or two at a time
3. If you attract three or more zombies: run away
4. When you run away try to get zombies to spread out before you go back to take them out
5. Have multiple houses as your bases and collect tools for building
6. Try not to lose your bearings and accidentally run into an infested area
7. Don't carry too much - it slows you down when running from zombies
8. Always pay attention - stray zombies do appear in areas you previously cleared
9. Don't leave the oven on - you'll burn the house down
10. Don't play the game when you're tired - you'll make a mistake and die!

And get used to judging the speed of zombies and which to take out first :)

Ooh, a zombie game. I haven't seen one of those for at least... (checks watch)... twenty minutes.

Zombies make everything better though. Everything. I like the look of the visuals, but if there's going to be more stuff added I think I'll hold off for now.

That did cross my mind while I was playing... "Is it The Zims or The Zoms?"

One thing it does have that I don't think The Sims has: the ability to spray blood all over walls and floors with a well-aimed baseball bat :-)

I have seen this game on YouTube and it has interested me, it looks like a fun game to pick up and not as evil as day z can be.

Is it a mmo? I will look at picking it up at payday , looks like its worth a spin

I don't think it's massively multiplayer, though a certain number of people (not yet sure how many) can play together (or against each other) on the same server. There are no public servers at the moment, but there are some private ones advertised on the forums.

The single-player game interests me more :-)

You've never seen Porn Of The Dead? Its a real porno film
As for Project Zomboid i thought this had been about for quite some time. I had a version of this on my lap-top a couple of years ago. It was quite enjoyable but rather fiddly to control.

It has, but it was mostly in development hell for.... well, quite awhile, basically. At one point development just totally locked up for a number of months and didnt continue forward at all. Yet it was in playable alpha/beta that entire time. So that's why it seems like it's always been around, except not quite...

Project Zomboid is still in Steam Early Access and is constantly updating. If you played it a couple of years ago (not even sure it was out then) then it was almost certainly a different game.

Isn't 'Early Access' meant to allow the community to help the developers during development, not write them off at the start of it?

Well I downloaded it at least two years ago maybe longer. An isometric zombie survival game called Project Zomboid.
Its the same game. Sorry if that doesnt fit in with your vision of what this game is supposed to be.

Not that i particularly need to justify my comments but if you scroll down the linked page on the right hand side you can see that the game has been about and has been constantly updated since 2011. Complete with months, years and according updates.
