ZX Spectrum Homebrew games

Post by the_hawk » Tue Sep 30, 2014 12:54 pm

Is there a central database or a website dedicated to Speccy Homebrew games?

Yes, yes I know the WOS archive has loads & I can find info about them in the forums, but has anyone put together a website with reviews/screenshots/info about their origins in one convenient location?

Really starting to get into my speccy again & realising that among my favourite games are Buzzsaw, Horrace and the Mystic Woods and Dingo, I'd love to discover more. :D

Yay Dingo!!! :)

Try 'Dreamwalker - AlterEgo 2' - it's one of the best Spectrum games I've ever played!

Oooh I've got that on my android, I'll have to try it on the humble speccy.

And yeah, Dingo's a lot of fun, you guys did a great job on that.

I'd love to another Spectrum game.

Everyone does puzzle games or platformers. I'd love to do a new game that's along the lines of 'Tir Na Nog' / 'Avalon'.

As always with Speccy game info, I reommend PSJ's Spectrum Bibles as a good launch point for stuff like this, especially the last one that gets into more recent releases. Yes, the book is a few years old now so is missing a few stunners, but still I found so many interesting games that would have passed me by otherwise.

Of course!! I'll have to treat myself to one of those when I get a few spare pennies.

Also I've just discovered the Laird's fantastic homebrew site, might lose a few hours in there at some point!

Yeah dont mean to plug it but the last book (6) was just to do with homebrew and it was amazing how many games we found.

The last few years theres still some great homebrew stuff around, some exceptional stuff from the likes of Binman and also a lot of great spanish homebrew games.

You can use the advanced search at WOS to search for games say after 2008 etc....

http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekadv.cgi

Or check the brand new software section....

http://www.worldofspectrum.org/forums/f ... y.php?f=27

Theres some exceptional games though, Horace in the Mystic Woods (someone created a copy of the old Psion Horace game) is superb, as are Bob Smiths games but sadly he seems to do just ZX81 stuff now. But i loved his Farmer Jack games

But yeah a good list of recent homebrew stuff on that link above

Just had a look at the latest games, Cousin Horace looks great....

Four different styles of game in one, i'll be playing this later

And it's only fair to point out I was responsible for building that part of the site and provided a huge amount of the content, but there we go.

Is there anything you didn't do/help/make but tried to claim credit for anyway?
