Sierra Games Reforms
We're running a story on the return of Sierra Games.
Whats are your memories of its past output, how do you feel about the two new games that have been announced and so on.
Cheers

Re: Sierra Games Reforms
I'm a fan of both Geometry Wars and King's Quest, so I couldn't be happier to see them back if that's the sort of games they're going to make.
Fingers are crossed that they'll turn out well, of course.

Re: Sierra Games Reforms
I played Kings Quest 5-7 and would love to see them (and indeed the whole series) remade or re-released. I'm looking forward to the new installment!
Also a fan of the Gabriel Knight games. Looking forward to the ios remake of Sins of the Fathers, and Beast Within still works fine on my computer.

The old games have already been rereleased, the entire series is available via GoG.com:SpockIOM wrote:I played Kings Quest 5-7 and would love to see them (and indeed the whole series) remade or re-released.

Sierra was the publisher and Geometry Wars 3 is part of the new Sierra line up.stvd wrote:Geometry Wars? Wasn't that Bizarre Creations?Matt_B wrote:I'm a fan of both Geometry Wars and King's Quest,

Re: Sierra Games Reforms
Well, they published Geometry Wars: Galaxies, at any rate. Lucid Games, largely made up of former Bizarre Creations people, will be developing the new game too.GigaPepsiMan wrote:Sierra was the publisher and Geometry Wars 3 is part of the new Sierra line up.stvd wrote:Geometry Wars? Re: Sierra Games Reforms
The King's Quest series were great, especially the fifth part amazed me, as a kid. I haven't yet seen a so "free" and colorful/detailed game before, as a console/8-bit computer player. I was also fond of the S.W.A.T. games, which were, unlike most shooters out there, more about solving a situation with minimal use of violence and tactical approach. I was never that into their more FMV style adventures like Phantasmagoria or The Beast Within but I do acknowledge them as important adventure games in their times and I liked their more cartoony adventures like Torin's Passage and they were also the publishers of some fantastic racing simulation games like NASCAR and Grand Prix Legends. The "Sierra" brand translated into "quality, visionary games" for PC gamers in it's time. Not sure what to think of this new reforming but I guess we will see what the outcome will be.

Re: Sierra Games Reforms
As a big adventure game fan I loved Sierra back in the day. A bit skeptic about this comeback actually. All the people who worked at Sierra in the 80s and 90s have moved on to other things.

Re: Sierra Games Reforms
Sierra adventure games didn't really do it for me the first time round, felt they were a bit harder than the ones put out by LucasArts, I was still only a kid in the 90's.
But recently, I have really enjoyed playing the Gabriel Knight games, managed to complete the first two and I spent way too many hours playing SWAT 3 and 4 in the past.
Would actually like to see some new adventure games get developed eventually, rather than a ton of remakes. As Antiriad2097 pointed out, a lot of the back catalogue is available on GoG and there is also a few games on Steam.

Re: Sierra Games Reforms
the first LSL was the one Sierra title that I have the fondest memories of. Automatic bragging rights at school that I had access to it.. that is when I could get past the 1970's US-centric questions at the start.
I discovered Space Quest soon after and really enjoyed the first 3 of those games. Kings quest too
Was a total nostalgia trip when I got the collections for them all for a few quid on GOG last year.

Re: Sierra Games Reforms
I think Sierra's games get too much criticism for being 'hard'.
It's got to be remembered that in the context of their time, adventure gamers were perceived as being relatively "hardcore", and as such demanded more challenge from their games, not less.
Indeed, many of Sierra's designers have recounted how later efforts to make their games easier were sometimes greeted with skepticism by their core fanbase, who wanted a game that would give them value for money, not one that they could just sleepwalk through in a matter of days, or even hours.
Changing tastes, and all that.
Certainly I agree that nowadays there are many Sierra tent-pole franchises that come across as just too hard, with puzzles that often border on the outright illogical.
But at the time, in the mid-to-late 1980s, that's exactly what adventure gamers actually wanted.
I do think the people who slagg off Sierra on the internet these days have tended to forget that, somewhat.

I thought it was incredibly well researched too, historically speaking.

One of my favourites too, and an overlooked little gem IMO.crusto wrote:Robin Hood - conquests of the longbow.
