Scariest gaming moments of all time
The structure of our hardest games feature was really popular, so we're applying it to this.
Tell us the scariest moments in videogames (they won't obviously all be horror related, but many will be).

Without any doubt it's the first time I heard the Predator cackle on AVP on the Jaguar, not much scares me but this really did!

The babies in Silent Hill 2. You could hear them crying before they attacked you. Why are infants so scary?!

the random "scream" as you changed screen near jason on C64 Friday the 13th
should probably have just played it with the volume a bit quieter though.

I'm going to throw a staple one in...
Resident Evil 2 - When a Licker jumps through a window in the interview room. You know it's coming but no matter what you still jump (or in a school mates case, scream

Getting chased by the wall in Sonic 3's Hydrocity Zone - panic panic panic!
My comics blog (mostly lesser-known UK stuff from the 80s and 90s)

when I realised Nintendo were serious about basing their next console around motion controls and underpowered hardware.

Scariest moments for me were always with the commodore 64 when I bought full price titles as a kid. That moment when the first attempt to load fails. You'd plug out all the joysticks and try again. The suspense was nerve wracking waiting to see if it would actually work.

Re: Scariest gaming moments of all time
There's a moment in Quake that made me jump out of my skin. In E1M2 there's a room with a big pair of double doors with a floor switch in front of it.
I naively walked onto the floor switch and stood watching the mechanism for the doors - two blocks raise up out of the floor and then over into these two holes in the wall on either side of the doors.
Then the doors fling open to reveal a Fiend that jumps straight at you. That scared the hell out of me.

Resident Evil on PS1 when the dogs jump through the windows when played the first time it I've never expect it!
Alien trilogy on PS1 when the face hugger jump at you covering the screen I'd nearly fell off my chair!

Doom always freaked me out a little bit.
Think it was the scratching sounds you sometimes heard.

I remember leaving the room when loading a game that was temperamental in the hope that it would have worked when I came back.......it rarely did and to be honest I don't what the logic behind it was

Re: Scariest gaming moments of all time
Plenty I could mention but I'll go for a game that I don't think will get any other shouts: Alien Resurrection on the PS1. This game had a Doom 3 atmosphere to it and was very unnerving with the motion tracker plus the fact that aliens would suddenly drop down from above or even burst out of doors that you'd already came through. It was also a hard game so the fact that ammo was often low and health in a danger zone meant that the tension only increased.
Retro is a state of mind, and cares not for your puny concepts like dates and calendars.

A few things.
The time when I was playing Resident evil 4, it was the lab section, I was nearly dead, could of sworn I saw something in hte distance, *TENSE MOMENTS* focused, THEN!!!
My phone goes of in my pocket making me jump
Silent hill 2, whats the reckoning this gets in a few times?
The pit, going deeper underground
The prison, all the surrounding noise, the bit in the toilets, check door, wont open, check door, wont open, turn around and nearly get out *THUD!!* scaring the bejesus out of me
