The Story of Roland
Hi Everyone
Been a big fan of the magazine for a long time and when I saw the section about Amstrad and Alan Sugar I decided to get my thumb out of my ass and finally finish my video about Amstrad & Roland...
I'm sure you retro nuts like me will get a kick out of watching my video. As this is my first post and i'm showing a youtube link it appears a it spammy, so please PM me for the link.
Much love

Thanks! Great video

Re: The Story of Roland
Yes!!!! One of the great characters in the history of gaming is finally given justice! Now I want to see a Retro Gamer 8 page spread on the franchise: "ROLAND- THE CULT".
Actually, I was hoping the Amstrad special in this issue would have had a similar section about the great man who made it all possible. It could likewise be titled "SUGAR- THE CULT". Hmm, did I spell that right?

A nicely put together video, actually. A lot better than some other efforts I've seen on YT.

Like 'tor said, it is about time that one of the greatest gaming mascots (tied with Cuthbert) got his due.
Not a bad video, but there are a few inaccuracies and omissions in there. Pretty good as a first attempt.

Some comments to the video

The crocodile mascot was used in France only and happend later than the Amsoft games.
Roland takes a running jump was a type in that was published in Amstrad User. It was never a comercial release.
Roland in time and Roland in Space is actually ok platform games although hard.
In the vid the author says "I was stuck with this sorry excuse of a mascot"
I think this is a quality video that is balanced and well worth seeing.

Interesting about Running Jump - I wondered why that wasn't covered in RG's own Roland feature.ivarf wrote:Some comments to the video

A video about the first PC Roland soundcard and the games that used it, would also be coolKatzkatz wrote:Likewise, I was expecting something on old PC soundcards!Antiriad2097 wrote:I was expecting something on synthesisers.

Re: The Story of Roland
A little overwhelmed many thanks for all the replys
It is hard getting all the info correct when there is so little available on the web, need to look at this Roland feature you guys have been talking about, do you know which issue it was?
I have already started working on the next video and for the first half I will be keeping it in the amstrad / commodore era before moving onto the 16 bit + era
cheers for the feedback

It's strange, but on that link under the "Description" section it says "Tags: manic miner jet set willy..."ivarf wrote:I just found Roland in Time for Android!

Is he suggesting that Roland In Time is in any way ripping off these games? Surely not!
