I still have my 400 and 800XL so here's my faves from 30 years ago:

Boulderdash - most of my childhood was 'lost' to this game, especially when the construction kit came out
Bruce Lee - rarely unfair and great fun, especially with two player
Gauntlet - because Gauntlet
Mercenary - I had no idea what I was doing but I still love this
Zybex - best horizontal shooter bar none!

Both of them are available on the Atari Computer range.
Most of the big Activision titles were made for the computers as well.
Really? I didn't know that.

I won't vote, as it wouldn't be a fair comparison with the rest that were available (which I don't know about). I do know a few Activision games I played on my C64 were also on the Atari's (originated on them I think), plus many other games I think of as C64 games, but I don't know how they were on those systems.

I look forward to the feature, though.

Some of the best, most fun and playable games were designed for the Atari computer series

My top 5

Elektraglide
Rescue on Fractulus
Drelbs
Alley Cat
Archon

Not included Star Raiders, as I preferred the VCS version with keypad

Really looking forward to this feature

1. Rescue On Fractalus - I have played a few versions of this, but the Atari one sits head and shoulders over the others IMO.
2. Defender - The cart that sits in my XEGS all the time, just such a good version.
3. Mercenary - Still a great game to play, and luckily found cheaply on disk, as my tape version is flaky at best.
4. Arkanoid - My favourite version of the classic coin op, fast smooth, and the controls are spot on.
5. Panther - The only tape game I have persevered with for any length of time, this is a budget masterpiece, smooth gameplay and a great soundtrack to boot.

Not that I have played the last two in quite some time, as I find the tape loading of the Atari just two frustrating to use, I have two recorders, and at least half the time the games do not load, even seems to be down to room temperature sometimes, if the day is a hot one, absolutely no chance, and the time they take is just incredible, Amaurote 12 minutes, and that is pretty good going...when it works.

Very surprised Dropzone hasn't appeared more frequently. I never rated it much , which is why it wasn't on my list, but it always seemed to be held up as a game in high regard.

Another top game I couldn't quite squeeze into my top 5 is Fort Apocalypse. Loved that game back in the day.

We did a survey of 10 atari owners and a feature on Atari 8-bit games proved really popular.

PC Engine next I reckon.

How can you do a top five?-too many to choose from.

Rescue on Fractalus
The Eidolon
Mercenary
M.U.L.E
Blue Max
Bruce Lee
Kennedy Approach
Encounter
Elektraglide
Koronis Rift
Ghostbusters
The Great American cross country road race
Bounty Bob Strikes Back
Solo Flight
Jet Boot Jack
Red Moon
Attack of the Mutant Camels
Mr Do
Dropzone
Boulderdash
Caverns of Mars
Super Cobra
International Karate
Star Raiders
Return to Eden

Not many that are exclusive to the Atari, but always enjoyed playing them on the Atari more than other machines.
