C64 as it almost feels like I am going back in time when I get another game and load it up. Brings a tear to my eye sometimes!

From a collecting p.o.v. it has to be the Mega Drive.
Can't beat picking up the games that helped define my teenage years once again. Brings back so many positive memories.

In terms of memories, gameplay time and fun, it would have to be the SNES for me - followed very closely by the N64 (Goldeneye, enough said) and the Gamecube (Phantasy Star Online)
Where logic won't work, I will

The Atari XL/XE, as that is what I am collecting for right now.

Would've generally said the PS2 but at prez, it's a toss-up between the original Xbox and the Wii, the horsepower of the XB still surprises, especially noticeably in FPSes and racers, the games are still goooooood!

I got the most joy out of the N64 due to Rare's excellent games. The system that gave me the most "joy and pain" would have to be the PC.

Mine is the SNES. I don't really "collect" games just for collection purposes, I tend to focus on buying games I think I would like (I have a collection, but its basically amassed collection of games I like). With the SNES, it has such a vast library of brilliant games and its an absolute pleasure of a console.
The SNES had the advantage of being there right at the "end" of the 2D console generation. As a result, the games still look slick today and it could delivery these games to the highest standard...where as the 3D consoles after look awful because of what they were trying to achieve with limited hardware. 3D gaming only truly came into its own from the PS2/XBOX/GC/DC generation.

MD - Not only from memories of my youth but after owning a Snes several times in the past 10 years I barely ever revisit games on the system and usually end up selling on. if it werent for Secret of Evermore I would have sold my latest one.
My MD game collection is quite large now and I have no intention of ever selling. It gets regular play , not just me but my 10 year old - under strict usage rules and guidance.
I still get plenty of joy playing the likes of Streets of Rage 2 , Road Rash , Undeadline , Psycho Pinball and many more. Whilst the Snes edged it in technical shenanigans and polish , the MD for me will always have more appeal and a larger list of games I would return to.

There's nothing remotely exotic about collecting and playing for the PS2 but the platform is great for tonnes of random and obscure games (always a laugh trying out something strange), has loads of excellent titles and is also relatively cheap to buy for. All of these things make for enjoyable gaming in my opinion and no other console gets as much attention.
Retro is a state of mind, and cares not for your puny concepts like dates and calendars.
