Classics you should have played

Post by Papa_Midnight » Fri Jan 03, 2014 7:38 am

I had a quick search on the forum but couldn't find the same topic. I apologise if it's been done before.

I was talking to a friend of mine who told me he had never seen the Godfather films which are seen as a classic in the film world. It got me thinking about videogames.

are their any games (modern or old-school) that are seen as 'classics' that you have never played?

me personally? I have NEVER played a Double Dragon game. I've got nothing against the series, I've just never got round to playing them.

what about you guys?

Good question!

I'm just getting into retro gaming after getting an Acorn Electron and a Mega Drive for Christmas, so I've been asking myself the same question this past week and a bit.

Here are my choices:

- Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom
- Super Breakout
- Tron
- Spy Hunter
- Star Wars
- Gauntlet

Never gave Lords of midnight a chance. Downloaded it for my Speccy emu and still not a fan. Tried it on ios and still can't get into it

I'm stunned when people haven't played some classics as it's so easy to find them on emulators. I mean Double Dragon, an all time classic. Hunt that down and give it a go

Last time we did this topic I flagged up Monkey Island. I've still not played it, though I have visited some other point n clickers, notably Flight of the Amazon Queen. I feel like such a fraud ;)

I have never played any Zelda, Mario or Sonic games.

As someone who has been gaming for 29 years I should be embarrassed really.

I've never played a Call of Duty game, other than a quick 2 minute attempt at one on the Gamecube.

Ditto Final Fantasy.

Almost any Nintendo game, notably Mario, Zelda, Pokemon. I've never had a Nintendo console, so I had no way to play them. I'm not bothered enough to play through them in emulators.

It's mainly system exclusives I haven't played. Shenmue is another that I haven't played.

Never played a Sims game, and to be honest I cannot see me doing that any time soon.

There are quite a few classic Lucasart adventures I really should get round to trying - their Indiana Jones adventure games, Zak McKracken (sp?), Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max and Full Throttle to name a few. Being a massive Monkey Island and Grim Fandango fan I'd imagine I'd enjoy them. I'm never sure whether they'll work with my high end computer or not. Curse of Monkey Island actually cost me my CD drive when I bought it, with the CD exploding into bits when I used it.
