Re: One Song That Defines SEGA
Cheers guys. From across various forums and social media it seems that Magical Sound Shower and Green Hill Zone are out front with Daytona in a close third. This has been a good help, partly in confirming our thoughts (this is what we had in mind). But there are some interesting alternative suggestions too which I think we'll look into.
Nice one, this should help with putting things together for RadioSEGA. Much appreciated.

Surely its the "Sega" tune at the start of a lot of Sega games

Splash Wave is definately the most iconic music track
'Welcome to the Fantasy Zone, get ready!' is the most memorable speech track though.

Ones that spring to mind immediately (though most have been nominated already):
Green Hill Zone - Sonic
Go Straight - Streets of Rage 2
Main theme/Beginner circuit theme - Daytona
Personal additions that scream 'Sega' to me:
Marble Maze Zone - Sonic
Rush A Difficulty - Outrun 2006 C2C Remix

Retro is a state of mind, and cares not for your puny concepts like dates and calendars.

Daytona always makes me think of Namco, as I'd rather be playing Ridge Racer.

I've always been a Nintendo boy, but whenever I think of playing on any mate's Segas as a child the first song that comes into my head is the first level on Sonic. Green Hill Zone!
Listening on youtube again now and yep it's great still

Re: One Song That Defines SEGA
For me it's gotta be the old "Sega" logo voice - but if that's not an option then Sonic's Green Hill Zone tune is a close second(despite me wanting to pick any number of tracks from the "Phantasy Star" series...)
Where logic won't work, I will

Oh, the "Saaaay-Gaaah" sample from the Mega Drive will most definitely be going in
.
Thanks again for all the suggestions guys, you're awesome!

Game music doesn't get any better than Magical Sound Shower. But I'd mention the main Afterburner theme and Wilderness from Golden Axe too.

I think Sega, particularly the Mega Drive, can be defined with any of the music from the Sonic series. Everyone recognises Green Hill Zone theme - it's up there with the Ground Theme from SMB1, although my faves are Starlight Zone and Chemical Plant Zone.
As far as the Master System and Game Gear go - I'll pitch Bridge Zone from Sonic 1 (didn't that one get lifted by Janet Jackson?) and The Last Dungeon from Wonder Boy 3: The Dragon's Trap.

Re: One Song That Defines SEGA
I just bought the 3DS version of Streets of Rage and that first level song just flooded back nostalgia of the Mega Drive more than anything from Sonic has done in years. Don't know the name of it though.

The theme tune off samba de amigo ^^Stevearcade wrote:Hey guys,
My group (http://www.facebook.com/opusscience) has been asked by RadioSEGA to make a couple of tracks to use as theme tunes on their shows. The idea is it will be an original piece of music, but have nods/salutes/key musical phrases from two or three tracks that are unmistakably SEGA tunes.
We have some ideas, but are canvassing opinion from the retro gaming forums for further ideas.
So what are your thoughts? If you had to pick one song from a SEGA game that is truly iconic and sums SEGA up, what song would it be.
Your thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated.
Cheers.
