I'm a fan of League Bowling.

A platformer I used to have on my Neo Geo was Blues Journey (also known as Raguy).

My favorite shootemup had to be Alpha Mission II. I just loved the music in that game, but then again the Neo Geo CD might have CD audio tracks for music.

Regarding playing imports, I'm not sure if the Neo Geo CD had import protection. The cartridge version certainly didn't. If you're interested, there are a couple of guides at GamesX which give details on a 50/60Hz mod. One for the Neo Geo CD here and one for the Neo Geo CDZ which is here.

You might find this site interesting as it's got information on the Neo Geo cartidge, MVS arcade and CD systems.

While I think about it too, there is a Samurai Spirits RPG, not sure if they translated it into English though.

Hope this helps...

Rob
